You spent like 30 min just trying to get them right to catch that giant radio wave signal

They were so long
Why so long

You have to have it that big or the radio waves would bypass your Tv

Big azz antennas needed to catch big azzz radio waves or the wave just travels beyond you

Radio signals in the VHF/UHF bands generally need a line of sight from the source to the antenna that received them.

When I was a child, officially, there was only one TV station available in Santa Barbara. KEYT on VHF channel 3. I think KCET, UHF 28 came along later.

With an antenna on a very tall pole above our rooftop, we were able to pull in a few more TV stations from Los Angeles. It's not that the antenna itself was particularly large, but that it was on top of a very tall pole, getting it closer to a line of sight to Los Angeles.
