Do you believe in Democracy? Ukrainian edition

Nah. Last thing I want is go back on Olanzapine... but thanks though.
Had to look that one up.

I get that. I had to take Ritalin and Cylert when I was young. Not as powerful as Olanzapine looks to be, but it definitely made me not me. Now I have to be almost on deaths door to take an Advil.

I see; i don't know what Cylert is, but isn't Ritalin just for ADHD/an amphetamine?

Do you believe in Democracy? Ukrainian edition

I personally believe that Democracy is the greatest thing that man has created. I also believe that Democracy is found in each and every nation in the world. The question should be, "how much Democracy exists in any one nation". There is actually an International Democracy Index available to sort it out .... according to its own measure of appraisal. My own assessment puts North Korea as the least Democratic nation in the world and Ukraine only a few marks better off.

Hard to argue with that. The current martial law and lack of elections in Ukraine doesn't allow it high marks.

Where do you put Russia?

Are their elections fair?

Killing off the political opposition certainly puts them pretty low on the democracy scale.

Democracy is GREAT*.

* If you have a well informed, sane, altruistic citizenry with shared goals.

That's what I believed about Russia vs Ukraine three years ago.

I now no longer believe Russia is conventionally as formidable as they previously projected.
What we have learned in the last 3 years is that the Russian military capability is far more formidable than we had previously thought.

That's definitely not what we've learned.

Russia is nearly a paper tiger.

What Russia has is a nuclear arsenal and a virtually unlimited supply of conscripted soldiers they are willing to throw into a meat grinder, never to return.

Other than that, they are completely and utterly unimpressive.

In half the time Russia has been at war with Ukraine, Germany took over all of Europe. X"s

It's time for the war to end. It's time for us to stop dumping critical weapons on them and depleting our own stores in the process.

Sometimes there is no "underdog's gotta win" scenario.
That’s up to Ukraine and Russia. No you.

Russia may be a paper tiger. But Trump has been trying to prop them up for a decade.

A drone captured footage of a Ukrainian soldier shooting a woman on the road from Rodinskoye to the DPR.
A Ukrainian soldier shot a woman who was trying to leave the city of Rodinskoye in the DPR. Footage of the brutal murder, captured by a drone, was published by military correspondent Andrei Filatov.
The recording shows a Ukrainian soldier opening fire on a civilian moving along the highway. After that, he approached the victim lying on the road, made sure she was dead, took her belongings, and disappeared into the woods.

I was in Ukraine once and it was a shit hole. What do I know about their politics? Nothing? Probably. But I did see life there and I have been to nearly 100 nations around the world so ..... I know shit and poverty when I see it and I can smell corruption just by looking around.
Where do you put Russia?
You had to ask me that, right? Again, speaking from my experience as an unqualified traveller I would say that Russia is improving by leaps and bounds. What really impresses me is their political savvy. American politicians do little more than make provocations, raise their voices, and maybe pound their fist on the table. Their logic sucks. Childish, really childish. They cannot argue their way out of any issue. It's mostly, "Everybody knows!". Nothing to back them up. I mean, they keep saying things like, "Putin's full scale invasion of Ukraine." Give it a ******* rest! Are we so stupid that we don't know what "full scale" means? I like Trump I really, really do, and he is a marvellous improvement over just about every American president since Eisenhower ..... but he still lacks motivated logic.

Then I listen to Putin. That guy knows what he is talking about and he explains himself so well. He organises Q & A sessions frequently and if you've ever watched one you will see that they ooze with Democratic sensibility. He's methodical and (what appears to be) honest.

But I didn't answer your question: "Where do I put Russia" with regards to Democracy? I look at my own country and I see that we have lost maybe 50% of the Democracy we once could claim. I put Russia ahead of us. Yes, I do.
Are their elections fair?
I don't know for sure but I can tell you that our elections are not fair. It disgusts me how low we have sunk! Are Russia's elections more fair than ours? I think it's possible, yes.
Killing off the political opposition certainly puts them pretty low on the democracy scale.
In order to debate this point we need to separate fact from fiction. The West has lying to us so deeply that we don't even know if 9/11 was perpetrated by inside forces. THAT'S A BIG DEAL!

There are several arguments that appear to debunk the selective questions about “killing off the political opposition” in Russia. There’s quite a lot of logistical uncertainties that make some of the accusations improbable.
Democracy is GREAT.
That's an understement! :WooHooSmileyWave-vi:

If you were to spend an equal amount of time reading the media in opposition you would have a much more balanced opinion.
In half the time Russia has been at war with Ukraine, Germany took over all of Europe.
I am surprised that you think there's some sort of analogical comparison to be made from that. I can see that you have no miliary insight at all. I don't even know what level of comprehension I should begin to explain how irrelevant your statement is. It’s like second-guessing the time required to swat a fly based upon the time needed to remove a pebble from your shoe. :cuckoo:

Not at all.

I know our capabilities.

Compared to us, Russia is small potatoes.

If we chose to do so, we could occupy Mexico and Canada simultaneously in a month. That's power.

I believed Russians military was at least half as capable as we are.

They are not. Not even close.

We are used to being able to steamroll our enemies.

What protects us as a country, being separated from our enemies by an ocean, also limits our offensive capabilities against them.

But fighting a war on our borders! It would redefine the definition of the word rout.

If Russia can't win a war on their border in six months, they can't win a war anywhere else.

You are comparing Russia to Europe. I am comparing Russia to us.

15th post
Put down the bottle, step away from the keyboard, and after you sober up in the morning you can fly your ass to Ukraine and enlist.

Send me a postcard from the front.
I've already served over 20 years, including during the Cold War.

I did my part for you and everyone else, which is why I recognize the Stalinist KGB thug exactly for what he is.

It is also why I recognize useful idiots like yourself and Trump.
