Do you associate Gretchen with Germans or with Latinos?

I always thought Gretchen is very German, but now i discovered it is also very common for latinos (spaniards and latin americans)

I think it is definitely of GERMANIC origins... like hermann, and the spaniards use hermanno, but it is maybe given them by visigoths?

Like North America also the South was populated from people from everywhere, mostly Europe.

gretchen is famous because of goethe.s faust

and Gretel ….. from Hänsel and Gretel

... Margret, Margot, Margrit, Greta, Grete, Gretchen, Gretel, Grit, Gritt, Rita (short forms) ...

By the way: Did you know that "Rita" - what sounds very German - is also often a prename in Italy?

I never even thought about it. Seems straightforward to me. Maybe Latinos like the name and it became a fad?
