Dante, in some ways for the best, they just don't recognize the BIG government expendatures of the 19th Century which allowed America to literally grow. These "programs" gave land to folks, used the military to protect businesses, spent lives of boys to kill off Native Americans so Railroads could get alternating plots of land from ocean to ocean.

Now we pretend the economy is supposed to run w/o government help. Oh, and our land values are supposed to increase faster than our population growth w/o magic interest rate tricks or letting our unbirn children's potential income being counted towards our 100 year mortgages (lol, watch them commissioned bankers).

So while I believe the average man needs a good fear of starvation we can't pretend killing all them Natives and Mexicans so Pa Ingalls could get his free plot wasn't a government program of continental proportions.

Can you imagine a Rightwing voter accusing Bush of lying about Iraq, specifically the war intelligence? The number of dead civilians? The cost? The culture of no-bid contracts? Shredding the Constitution through the Patriot Act and the erosion of Habeas Corpus so that it was easier to target domestic political opposition as enemies of the state?

Prior to being a lame duck, Bush never had to fear opposition from his own party.
