The industries that are vital to our nation's infrastructure, like energy, mines, utilities, banks, weapons manufacturing..etc. are managed by the US government. Today many local municipalities run the electric companies and several other utilities often offering lower prices than private companies. The earnings of these publicly owned companies are deposited in the public treasury, in order to pay for healthcare and education. etc. Infrastructure development.

You would rather give this money to billionaires, I would rather have my democratic government (government for the people, by the people), deposit this money in the public treasury and use it to build up the country. The American people own certain resources collectively, as a community. It's our common wealth, belonging to all Americans, not a billionaire or privately owned companies.

You're mischaracterizing Stalin and the government of the USSR under his leadership. The Soviets had their virtues and benefits, along with their flaws, just like we do here in the US. The USSR was the first attempt by socialists to establish a socialist society and economy at a national scale. Russia was an agrarian society, under-industrialized, and the Soviets managed to turn it into an industrial powerhouse, rivaling the US. It became a nuclear superpower and the second largest economy in the world, second to the US.

The Soviets suffered many invasions and were practically always at war, defending themselves. In the end, due to various factors, the USSR dissolved in 1991, after 70 years of its founding in 1917. To compare the Soviets to the US is like comparing oranges and apples. Two different countries under different circumstances.

Most billionaires had a wealthy daddy or received help from their upper-middle class parents to start the business. The government also helped several billionaires grow their fortunes, protecting their patents, providing contracts and subsidies, among many other resources.

No individual or single-family in society should have so much money and power. They undermine democracy with their money. As far as the old worn-out "utopia" argument. Do you want dystopia? I prefer utopia to dystopia. In truth, what socialism provides is just a better system not a perfect one. We're not utopians but if you want to pretend we are.
