One of the most interesting psych videos ever produced is one called, "You are what you were when," by Morris Massey. In it, he goes through several cultural "generations" (which he defines by the decades of the 1900's) and shows how each generation was impacted by what was going on in the world when they were children. It addresses the sorts of things that motivate, repel, and stimulate people of each generation. It is amazingly insightful.
Born in 1949, I was fully aware of what was going on in the 60's, and I am fully aware that the people of my generation who got all of the attention were far less than half of their generation. While they were "tuning in, turning off, and dropping out," we were working our butts off trying to pay our way through college and life. While they were jerking off at Woodstock and anti-war rallies, we were in the Armed Forces growing up.
THOSE children of the 60's have destroyed Academe, public service, the Mainstream Media, and "Hollywood."
And we may never recover.
