Trump's stated objective was to bring Iran to negotiating ending foreign adventures. Soleimani is the logical guy they'd send. But I find it hard to believe they were doing this at the same time as targeting US military bases in Iraq and supporting breaking into the embassy compound.

But at the same time, I doubt Trump actually wants to let Iran sell oil under any circumstances. He needs an enemy to rally the Trumpstettes.

Iran is a majority shiite Saudi Arabia is majority Sunni these two sects have been going at it for hundreds if not thousands of years Soleimani was hardly the one to negotiate a peace treaty to that.
