Did some fool really put a military base, an important one, in a flood plain?

Nebraska flooding inundates home of US Strategic Command

A naval base at least has to be at the water. Is Offutt Air Force Base really getting flooded? Is this the first time? Who is the idiot who put part of the base in the flood plain? Is this just a couple out houses or something that got flooded?

Talk me down, I'm on the edge of facepalming lol.

Welcome to government. Politics always trumps logical thinking. Just wait until they are in charge of your health care.

This is why the UK's NHS was offering breast augmentation for women in the military, while women with breast cancer were dying on waiting lists for surgery.

That's because in Britain, they had a choice of offering dental care of breast augmentation. When they examined how bad the teeth were and how flat the womens chests were, they told the women just to keep their mouths shut and they elected for breast augmentation.

There are ways to do universal health care that make sense and it involves the Government very little except for funding. If you want to discuss that, I suggest we go to another area here and discuss it reasonably and calmly.

I have more of a problem with land that belongs to the people being fenced off because the military used mostly desert as a bombing range and left live ordinance. Apparently there is a wonderful little island off the coast of Mass that is closed because the military left live ordinance all over the place in bombing runs during WW2. Clean it up for God's sake and give it back to the people.

Yes the biggest polluter in the world is the US Government (with the possible exception of Soviet Russia). Every US military base is a Superfund site, if truth be told. Add in all the Department of Energy sites, and you have a real mess.

Sounds like we're in agreement, Offutt doesn't have fighter jets.

That's not all. They put stealth jets costing over $300,000,000.00 EACH into a hurricane zone during hurricane season and lost 10% of our fleet.

I just heard that 10% of our entire Stealth Fleet was lost by Donald Trump.

And made the excuse they couldn't fly because they are being serviced. Now they are gone.

Nice planning. Great foresight.

FIrst, there are many states in USA in hurricane zone, and hurricanes season lasts half the year. There are many other states in tornado zone. Others in typhoon zones in the Pacific. Others in tsunami risk areas. You can't possibly expect basing decisions to be made on fear of rare natural disasters, to put it in context the last hurricane to hit Tyndall area was in 2004, before that 1995.

Second, your information about losing 10% of the fleet is bullshit: Hurricane-Battered F-22s Are Now Flying Out of Michael's Aftermath
The U.S. Air Force has released photos of F-22 Raptor jets that were caught in a hurricane. All 17 Raptors stuck on the ground at Tyndall Air Force Base not only survived the virtual destruction of the base but were brought back up to airworthy condition within days.
As it turns out, despite severe damage to the hangars that sheltered them, all of the jets survived the hurricane in relatively good condition. The F-22 is tough, after all. Nearly a month later, all of the Raptors are slated to leave the base—on their own power. Here’s a collection of photos showing Raptor pilots and maintainers working to get the planes airworthy and off the damaged base.

Third, your framing airplanes being unflyable as an excuse is naive. They flew 2/3 of the 55 Raptors out, others were being serviced and not airworthy. If you look up availability rate for F-22 they vary by squadron between 50-65%, so it's not some inconceivable situation only being able to get 2/3 airworthy given a few days.

Thank you for the numbers.

If they were in hurricane/bomb proof shelters I will cut the mechanics some slack.

When I know its going to be time to move in a week I get my old Mustang running though.

They aren't stationed there. But they are there. There are X number of Fighters there on any given day just like every other AFB in the world.
Where X is usually zero.

Here in in Grand Junction, Co. at Walker Field, a Civilian Airport, we have X number of Military Fighters on any given day. The Navy operates here. And you know for an absolute fact that no Military Fighters aren't TDY or Off Station Training at Offutt? You mean, they didn't ask your permission so they can't be there? Now, that make sense. You really need to get that ego in check.

Well first you've twisted what I said so have gone straw man again. I didn't say there aren't any there ever, I said there are usually zero fighters at Offutt.

Secondly, I was stationed at Offutt for four years and could see/hear everything that took off, hell it's a pretty small base everyone there can see/hear everything that takes off. You can talk all you want about Grand Junction but I'm telling you for a fact that it was very unusual to see fighter aircraft taking off from Offutt AFB. I saw everything from EA-6Bs to German Tornadoes to Air Force One fly in/out and of course F-16s and F-15s, but it was uncommon enough that we'd look up when we heard an engine that didn't sound like the usual Rivet Joint/Kneecap/C-130.

Then there WAS the occasional fighter that I said was there either TDY or off station training. I don't think I am going to let you get away with this one. You were wrong and you played the big man and tried to correct someone that was right. You can't dig your way out of this one. It's exactly like I said it is. You said NO fighters, I said there were fighters there either TDY or Off Station Training, not stationed there. Don't you think you should drop it now, I won''t.

Hah wow someone's self-esteem needs a pat on the back. Okay let's cover this:

1. I said Offutt doesn't have fighter jets. True statement, there are no fighters stationed at Offutt AFB.
2. You said there are X number of fighters there on any given day, I said X is usually zero which is also correct.

You can threaten to not drop it all you want, I couldn't care less. I've got time to waste on your pedantic pursuits.

You said there were NO fighters on Offutt. Then after I called you on it, you started to back pedal. Well, you keep back pedaling and moving that goalpost all you want but your original statement stands. You ain't dealing with Monobreath on this one.

Nope, you're incorrect.

My first comment was post #9 I said "Offutt doesn't have fighter jets" which is a reference to them being stationed there, as in ownership.
My second comment was post #27 which said "Sounds like we're in agreement, Offutt doesn't have fighter jets." again referencing the Offutt being the base of fighter jets.
My third comment was when you said on any given day there are x number of fighter jets, I said "where x is usually zero" which is correct.

So where are we now? We're at you lying when you claim I said "there were NO fighters on Offutt" right? The thread is right here for anyone to see, and edits show up as edits. If you're going to chase this silly pedantic mission get your facts straight first so you don't look like such an ass lying about what I said.

Furthermore I never backpedaled and never moved the goalposts. From the first post I maintain that Offutt doesn't have fighter jets, and despite your faux expertise on any given day it was extremely unlikely any fighter jets were at Offutt. Your speculation about the fighter jets during the flooding was naive and worthy of mockery.

Where on any given day, the number is zero. Yet on any other given day it might be a whole squadron of fighters or maybe one or two. But I rarely saw a single fighterr by itself unless it was an emergency situation. You are trying to worm your way out. As I said, I ain't Monobreath. And you have very little experience with the many bases that some of have. Just admit you don't know and press on. Otherwise, you get treated exactlyy like I treat Monobreath since that's his weakpoint. It's worse with you since you should know better.

Just remember this the next time you go to rag on Monobreath. He isn't one of the worst around here by far on teh kook scale. And since you are doing one of his routines, maybe you should cut him some slack as well.

You are trying to worm your way out.
Absolutely not, you keep implying this but I've done nothing but stand behind my statements. Offutt doesn't have fighter jets, and on any given day the number of fighters at Offutt is usually zero. I'm not sure which is more amusing, your active imagination dreaming up all this backpedaling or your pedantic obsession.

I think you have major self-esteem issues to be spending this energy engaging in the logical contortions necessary to convince yourself you've somehow pounced on me here. I stand by my statements as I have since this thread started. The more you type, the more foolish you look.
