A better than average turnout for parent-teacher night recently. Some parents were pretty confident with their English, in other cases we had to interpret. It's funny to see the turn of tables when a child has to translate for a parent. I had prepared translated syllabi for the parents, and we were able to communicate well anyway. Good to see more families involved than in recent years. It's key.

Huh…don’t Americans speak English?
Are you teaching in Mexico?

Despite the rain, there were 55mph sustained winds blowing it sideways, too.

It's like being on a motorcycle going 55 into the rain. Not pleasant.

Damn…just asking. All the kids and parents part of my daughter’s class speak American.

There is no language named "American." Most people in my country speak English.

Unless your ancestors came over directly from England, they didn’t speak English at first, either
