Dems Who Oppose Medicaid Work Requirements Believe

‘Poor People Are Stupid’

6 Jul 2025 ~~ By Pam Key

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that Democrats who opposed Medicaid work requirements in President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” think “poor people are stupid.”
Host Dana Bash said, “I’m sure you’ve seen and heard a lot of the concern, including, and especially from Republicans who are the most vocal in Congress, about the fact that those work requirements are going to be very cumbersome to actually prove. And it will inevitably force the people who need that Medicaid coverage off the rolls.”
Bessent said, “Well, first of all, the Republicans are not the most vocal on this. It is a group of Democrats who, unfortunately, seem to think that poor people are stupid. I don’t think poor people are stupid. I think they have agency. And I think to have them register twice a year for these benefits, that is not a burden, but these people who want to infantilize the poor and those who need these Medicaid benefits are alarmists.”

Commentary:
Illegal Aliens had no business receiving Medicaid, free education, housing, jobs, or cell phones.
It’s truly ironic, that the Democrats believe that adult poor people and adult blacks are too stupid to get a photo ID for the purposes of voting... and yet they apparently think that children are ‘smart’ enough to know and decide if they want to permanently mutilate their bodies in order to become another sex.
They do have a point though. An awful lot of poor people.... ie minorities... do tend to always only vote Democrat... against their own best interests.
Democrats always fail to admit nothing is free somebody has to pay for it that’s what makes them such losers that can never be trusted with anything.
If you want health care, on the federal taxpayers dime, you should work, if you are able to. That is called fair. A free ride with no requirements, is unfair.
Benjamin Franklin postulated:

“I am for doing good to the poor, but...I think the best way of doing good to the poor,

is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it."

With 90% of all people having an IQ of under 120 , it is certain that more than 90% of poor people are in that category .
Stupid .
Or ,an equivalent term apparently more "user" friendly but with the same meaning .

Society might then be in a far better fact based condition if it started its planning etc from there .

Apologies .
I must stop slipping Deep State type thoughts into my comments .

Democrats oppose most work requirements because most of these able bodied people receiving medicaid, are mostly single, middle aged, poor and uneducated women, who are the caretakers of their elderly parents and others, in their families.

They are not young able bodies 20 year olds in mama's basement playing video games. Those critters should get their asses to work!

What you fail to recognize is many able bodied are working, they just do not have employers that offer health insurance as a benefit....and earn too little to get Obamacare, and too much to qualify for Medicaid...Under normal terms, or without the Obamacare Medicaid expansion.

What you fail to recognize is that the mandatory exemptions include parents/caregivers of children ≤ 14, medically frail individuals, pregnant/postpartum people, and others. You can keep your benefits if you meet the requirements which is work only 80 hours a month, which can include voluntary work, and/or continuing education. This is according to Kff.org.

To mee it is a motivation and works to get people to strive for more.

This new bill exempts single mothers from the work requirement
