Shamefully, only 2 Democrats voted for the compromise spending bill that Speaker Johnson submitted yesterday. 172 Republicans voted for it, with 38 voting against. Thus, if just 33 Democrats had voted for it, it would have passed and there'd be no worry about a government shutdown during Christmas.

The compromise bill contained about 80-85% of the provisions of the original bill, which is why 38 hardline Republicans voted against it. Speaker Johnson needed help from the Democrats to pass the bill, but only 2 Democrats voted for it.

Democrats are hoping they can extort Johnson into caving in and submitting the original bill, which would most likely pass because at least 50 Republicans would vote for it just to avoid a shutdown. But why can't the Democrats compromise and accept 80-85% of what they originally said they wanted?

Democrats would rather burn the country down than pass a budget

By rights, they should have lost 9 Senate seats and 50 to 60 House seats, but were able to cheat enough to stay competitive

Do airports shut down during a shutdown? That'd be something. What about unloading of ships? Imagine that completely shutting down as well. Wow.

The best this country can hope for is pure gridlock. "Bipartisan" ( StateSpeak) gets us NAFTA, the DHS, the Patriot Act, the FISA court, Guantanemo, Wars on poverty, terror, and racism, mail in voting, don't ask don't tell, the F35, and you have no need to know, Citizen's United, you can think of more I'm sure. Until we realize, all of us, that the problem is not this or that crooked politician that is the problem but it's the entire system that harbors and encourages them.

Moses Johnson has to get his people in line.

The original bill was a compromise.

That would be 'looking to stir up shit', not solve a problem. But that's exactly what Democrats do.

with 38 voting against

and hence the problem with the GOP and too many faux "conservatives" like the OP who vote for the big government PRO ISRAEL RINOs, and then make excuses...

Any of the 38 not obvious big time supporters of ISRAEL??

Didn't think so....

All 38 likely want Chauvin released too...

Just wondering. Aren't tsa workers govt workers? Why should they have to work without a paycheck? Or do private companies pay them?

If the dems want to shut it down, let them. They have been Fing Americans over for four years, why wouldn’t they on their way out?

Why did 38 repubs vote no?

Ultimately the Dems voted to shut down the government. This may be good news because there should be a real fear that the U.S becomes insolvent before the end of Trumps term based on the unwillingness of your government to decrease the deficit. What amount of interest each year is sustainable for America? $1.5T? $2T? What number?

Dems are utter children, but they do have one point, and that is reps better get their shit together.
