Democrats Retreat on Civil Liberties in 2012 Platform | Mother Jones
In 2008, Democrats were eager to draw a contrast with what they then portrayed as Republican excesses in the fight against Al Qaeda. Since then, the Obama administration has in many cases continued the national security policies of its predecessorand the Democratic Party's 2012 platform highlights this reversal, abandoning much of the substance and all of the bombast of the 2008 platform. Here are a few places where the differences are most glaring:
Indefinite Detention
Warrantless Surveillance/PATRIOT Act
Gitmo
Racial Profiling in Fighting Terrorism
Torture
Everybody saw this coming, right?
how about voters' rights?
women's rights to equal pay for equal work?
right to reproductive choice?
right to marriage equality?
when the president talked about closing Gitmo, the right had a nervous breakdown
when the president said he wanted trials for the people detained at Gitmo, the right had a nervous breakdown.
no one engages in racial profiling... that's what ticks off all the whiners who have a nervous breakdown b/c they have to take off their shoes at the airport.
and please let us know what torture and waterboarding occurred while this president has been in office...
Good morning, X, thanks for the morning fauxrage.
