Ok, so in another post some asked what Democrats have or were on the FOX payroll. Here is a quick list I came up with.

  • Juan Williams
  • Kirsten Powers
  • Geraldine Ferraro
  • Bob Beckel
  • Lanny Davis
  • Susan Estrich
  • Pat Caddell
  • Harold Ford Jr
  • Alan Colmes

I'd be curious to see the same type of list for the Republicans that are contributers of MSNBC.

Off the top of my head I come up with three...

  • Pat Buchanon
  • Tucker Carlson
  • Joe Scarborough

Anyone, anyone???

It is kind of like comparing red delicious and gold delicious apples. They are both apples, but different flavors. MSNBC largely employees journalists rather than former partisan politcal operatives, former politicians or think tank fellows from either side.

Here is a list of MSNBC anchors and correspondents. They just don't have the household names like Palin, Rove, Oliver North, etc. that Fox does

You forgot Douglas Kennedy. and Shepard Smith.

MSNBC largely employees journalists rather than former partisan politcal operatives, former politicians or think tank fellows from either side.

And most are very liberal with their journalistic bias.

But just like Fox, that is a subjective call depending on where an individual viewer falls in the political spectrum. Liberals think MSNBC is fair. Conservatives don't. Conservatives think that Fox is fair. Liberals don't. Many middle of the roaders (the majority of people) like to take a little something from both and decide for themselves where the truth lies. These are the folks that the "true believers" think are uninformed.

I sit on both sides of the aisle with my politics. I watch both networks (MSNBC more often). Sure it's my personal opinion, but when it comes to bias...both networks show their own in their commentary/opinion shows and both show a bias, not in the news, but in the stories that they discuss in their news programs.

It's sad, I wish there were straight unbiased news programs out there. You'd think one of the networks would hear the people asking for this and really cash in.

For better or for worse, I think that your wish has already come true. The networks have heard what people are asking for...and have given it to us: networks which support and nurture whatever particular biases we, as a nation, choose to believe.

WARNING - HYPERBOLE ALERT!

Believe that Bush is the anti-christ, Cheney is the Devil himself, and that high taxes and government intervention is the way to save this country, thank God for Obama? MSNBC will do a pretty good job making you feel A-OK about those beliefs.

Believe that Obama is a Muslim/Socialist spy sent to destroy this nation, that unions are evil, teachers in public schools are desperately trying to turn your children into gay nymphomanical communists and that if we let the richest Americans keep all of their money that they would gladly share it with the rest of us? FOXNews will do its best to make you feel that most Americans agree with you.

WARNING - HYPERBOLE ENDING!

In all seriousness...the concept of a news agency being unbiased is a fairly new one to begin with. In the past, newspapers proudly announced that they were liberal or conservative, Democrat or Republican, etc. At least then you knew exactly what you were getting when you opened its pages - and they didn't waste everyone's time trying to lie about leaning one way or the other.

Do Americans really, truly want a completely unbiased news source? One that doesn't tell them how to feel about an issue? One that doesn't say - if you identify yourself as liberal - feel this way, or if you are a conservative - feel this way?

I just don't know if I have as much faith in the average Americans as you do...I think that when it comes to politics...most people are quite comfortable watching the programs that agree with them and pulling the party-line lever when they do decide to get off their couches to vote.

Absolutely. I know many people who wish there were simple CSPAN type news programs. Report the news, and allow their viewers to make up their own mind about how they feel on the issue.

I agree with you, but it will never happen. Who what, where, when, why and how used to be what news reporting was. That was simpler when you had a 30 minute national news program and a 30 minute local news program that was provided out of obligation for free use of the airwaves. 24 hour news channels have to fill 24 hours of program for 365 days a year. There just ins't that much hard news, so they have to invent programming.....programming that will keep people coming back. Programming that will provide ratings and revenue. That is why cable news has become a blood sport that revolves around political good and evil. The genie has been let out of the bottle and it ain't going back in.

Palin, and Rove are not anchors or correspondents.

Oliver North hosts a show that is neither news nor commentary.

Uhhhhhh, that was kind of my point. MSNBC largely uses journalists and some "contributors" and "analyst". Fox utilizes more contributors and analysts. Merely a difference in how they operate. Ollie does have his own show, but he often contributes political thought to programs like Hannity.
