One of the primary rules in politics is that you don't lose your base constituency. On this issue, neither side wants to do that and so the possibility for a bipartisan bill on abortion rights is kinda unlikely. I believe I read where some moderate republicans have floated the idea of a national ban on abortions after 13-15 weeks, which is in line with our contemporaries in Europe, but there's probably too many people on both sides that won't sign up for that cuz they believe their constituencies won't support it. Too many want abortions up to birth while others don't want legal abortion at all. Most polls and surveys I've seen here in America favor such a law, maybe after November a different Congress can find a way to do it. And maybe we need a different president too.
