Wow, "something" mongering at its finest. I don't see this as a fear. Just a nod to the fact that people have short memories. People need to remember that it was Trump's incompetent response (or lack of) to the virus that caused the economic carnage to begin with. Republican and Democrat governors, mayors, and business leaders were forced to act when all he knew how to do was golf and hold pep rallies, hoping it would all just go away. There is a chance that people might forget that in the upward (hopefully) rocket of a quicker economic recovery and Trump squeaks by in his re-election bid. But I don't think that will be the case. I think Republicans are hoping that will happen.

They were saying when Trump was elected that if he delivered on the economy they were in trouble.

No less true now than it was 4 years ago, and maybe moreso, as people are shell-shocked, desperate for good news.

If we see an economic surge going into November an awful lot of them will cling to that ray of hope, right or wrong.

The dems have to paint the whole scenario as a failure by Trump, which they have been trying to do really from before we even had an outbreak here, but if the economic data says we are moving forward, this argument is not going anywhere for them, IMHO.

As more and more data comes out that the terror charts were way, way, way off in terms of the fatality rates, people will start to look to who locked them down, who cost them their jobs, their businesses, homes and savings, who is keeping them locked down and what the actual benefits and costs are.

They are going to be pretty pissed off about it as they start to add all of that up. Someone is going to pay at the ballot box, no question, no doubt, so it's all about the message going forward.

"It's the economy, stupid" has never been more true than it will be in this election.

I think the article is full on bullshit. A Trumpian wet dream. Certainly Republicans didn't want Obama to succeed. They didn't want him to have "anything to run on" for a second term. They actively sabotaged his every attempt to boost the recovery. They developed this strategy while the economy was shedding 500,000 jobs per month. Give Obama nothing to run on.

I personally think Furman is an idiot. The entire Trump economy was built on smoke, mirrors and a level of consumer confidence that had no basis in economic reality. Consumer confidence was been shot to hell, and people are afraid to spend money or go out.

On the morning of 9/11, I took my 11 year old daughter to the eye doctor, without having turned on the radio or the TV. We knew nothing of what was happening until we arrived at the doctor's office at 9:30. On the way home through an eerily quiet and deserted city, I told my daughter that nothing would be the same after this day. That there would be a terrible war. The world had changed forever.

This pandemic is such a moment for the world. The world has changed forever. American inequity and social decline has been laid bare for all to see. The American Dream has been exposed as a total lie, and instead of being the "Shining city on the hill", the American people are shown to be broke, sick and weak. The highest rate of disease and death, in the wealthiest nation in the world.

In becoming the richest most powerful nation on earth, you have neglected and sickened your people, degraded their health, and you're prepared to send them back to work, and allow tens of thousands more people to die, to serve your corporate overlords.

Everybody has 20/20 hindsight, and "spin"---such as you have just produced here. That has been going on for a long time. That is no doubt what you are seeing in Shitholes Third Worlds like New York, Baltimore, Detroit, etc is weakness and degradation---and that is dragging America down.

But, we are just fine in the Heartland. Looks like it was like a moderate to bad flu season around here---maybe not even that. It's hard to judge when the Democrats have generated such irrational (or politically contrived) hysteria.

It hits old people pretty hard. I am old, so I have stayed pretty close to home. But young healthy people should be, and should have been, out working, going to the beach and getting on with their lives.

I think the article is full on bullshit. A Trumpian wet dream. Certainly Republicans didn't want Obama to succeed. They didn't want him to have "anything to run on" for a second term. They actively sabotaged his every attempt to boost the recovery. They developed this strategy while the economy was shedding 500,000 jobs per month. Give Obama nothing to run on.

I personally think Furman is an idiot. The entire Trump economy was built on smoke, mirrors and a level of consumer confidence that had no basis in economic reality. Consumer confidence was been shot to hell, and people are afraid to spend money or go out.

On the morning of 9/11, I took my 11 year old daughter to the eye doctor, without having turned on the radio or the TV. We knew nothing of what was happening until we arrived at the doctor's office at 9:30. On the way home through an eerily quiet and deserted city, I told my daughter that nothing would be the same after this day. That there would be a terrible war. The world had changed forever.

This pandemic is such a moment for the world. The world has changed forever. American inequity and social decline has been laid bare for all to see. The American Dream has been exposed as a total lie, and instead of being the "Shining city on the hill", the American people are shown to be broke, sick and weak. The highest rate of disease and death, in the wealthiest nation in the world.

In becoming the richest most powerful nation on earth, you have neglected and sickened your people, degraded their health, and you're prepared to send them back to work, and allow tens of thousands more people to die, to serve your corporate overlords.

Either the people rise up and vote out these incompetent rich assholes, and for once in their lives have government "FOR THE PEOPLE", not the corporations, not the elites, not the economy, FOR THE PEOPLE, or your country is done.

The REASON that we became the richest most powerful nation on earth is that we were the place where people could better themselves by their own efforts. We were the land of opportunity!
