Inside the US Capitol, Democrats firmly lined up behind Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer as he unveiled the party’s official demands on Wednesday to rein in Trump’s Department of Homeland Security. Behind the scenes, several of Schumer’s Democrats rebuffed efforts by the White House to privately discuss off-ramps for a shutdown, insisting that Republicans must come to the table instead of trying to peel off centrist Democrats like the last shutdown.

Even confronted with the prospect of a shutdown of three-quarters of the government starting Saturday, many Democrats were unwavering – buoyed by a belief that the country’s patience for the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement tactics have run out.

“I am just so sick of them ignoring it all because Donald Trump might give them a spanking,” Sen. Jacky Rosen, a Democrat from Nevada, said.

I have to doubt that Democrats are really all that bouyant over the idea of yet another shutdown, so soon. Especially since this time it will be specifically to protect criminal aliens and rioters.

If they have momentum going into November of this year, they could lose it if they are perceived as the party of taking the ball and running instead of playing fair.

Also, why is spanking always the first thing that comes to mind for them?

What do you think? Yes, or no?

Republicans should concern themselves with how this president is killing your party. But your arrogance will make you believe that everything is better than before.

I've read that the bill has six parts, funding six different areas of govt....the democrats are signing off on 5 of the 6 divisions of govt funding, but not the funding for homeland security without changes to ICE like making them better trained on the citizens and peoples constitutional rights, and how to deescalate instead of escalate, (and how to arrest without cruelty imo too). That means 95% of the govt could stay opened, and homeland security too... cuz they got lots of money in the big beautiful bill and haven't used much of what they already got....

Then the 6th part, homeland security, they can actually debate on the floor, and see what they end up with.

Then all the GOP can roll up the paper copies of the bill and use them to beat Schumer, Pelosi, Sanders, AOC, Warren, and the other dogs in the squad....to a bloody pulp.

That sounds real good, it really does.

But it presumes a rational opposition party, which we currently do not have. Instead, we have a party whose strategy is to oppose everything the President does, no matter what, and preferably take the exact opposite position. Also encourage the exact type of violence that homeland security is tasked to deal with.

Since Trump ran on securing the border and deporting illegals, the Democrats must take the side of re-opening the border and keeping all illegals in the country. Tough sell only months before the midterms.

Are you sure that Homeland Security is the only thing in the spending bill the Democrats are talking about having a partial shutdown over? The media is being cagey about saying what else is in the bill, and you know what that means . . .

Every day hundreds of ICE processing events go off without a hitch.

The only time they have issues is when people unrelated to the task the ICE officers have to perform interfere with said officers.

No police force has EVER seen this type of behavior at this level directed against them.

This isn't riot police or security police directly dealing with a riot, this is officers performing their normal duty being accosted by outsiders.

CNN Bullshit.
It is political. ICE already undergo such training. What the Dems want is to criminalize them for doing their job - and yet again - put the blame on ICE rather than the violent combatants who harass them everywhere they go. Dems don't care. They just want to play politics for votes for the stupid people.

So Democrats are saying that unless we allow violent, dangerous, criminal aliens to remain in America, they will put our homeland’s security - and thus Americans’ safety - at risk?

Another BLATANT example of how Democraats care more about what’s best for criminal aliens than law-abiding Americans.

Protesting, following ice, whistles blown and filming ICE operations is a protected first amendment right, to oppose our govt and their actions and our voice heard, every court has ruled, including the Supreme Court that this is legal and constitutional.... Protest is protesting, it's being against what your govt is doing or actions their taking that you see appalling or unjust or cruel in their mannerisms, not some Kumbaya party....

It certainly is NOT a death sentence, for goodness sake...even if the operation of ICE is disrupted or postponed due to it.

We have no constitutional right to oppose government actions physically. We have a natural right to do it, but that means revolt/rebellion. If you read the first amendment it says to peaceably assemble, not harass law enforcement officers doing their job.

Notice the appeals court overturned that one judge who tried to limit ICE's response to interference.

There is ZERO RIGHT to prevent federal officers from performing their duties. You are just making shit up.

That you have to downplay what is actually happening in the streets just shows your need for duplicity to make your points.

Blocking ICE with threats and assaults from carrying out their operations to enforce federal law is not “freedom of speech.”

These leftists want to excuse the most felonious actions as being “freedom of speech.”

But take note of their double standard: they were willing to bankrupt a 100-year-old syrup company because they thought the logo might be offensive to blacks, and then insist calls of “Death to Jews!” is free speech.

(One former mod here, very far to the left, said that MY objection to the HAMAS supporters calling out to genocide Jews was Islamophobic!)

Their training went from 5 months down to 47 days.

Your diatribe is :cuckoo: and as hyped up from rhetoric as the overzealous agents...imho.

FOFA budget version. Republicans brought this on themselves. Democrats had no intention of getting a shutdown until Trump went apeshit killing and violating American civil liberties.

The anti-American mayor and gov called the agents Nazis, and riled up the useful idiots to see them as the enemy. They are being doxxed, threatened, and assaulted.

The ENEMY is the dangerous, violent, criminal aliens you idiots are trying to protect.

"Death to Jews" as a blanket statement is free speech. "Death to this Jew right here" or "Go out and kill this jew" is not.

It's a double edged sword, but one must be consistent.

No, incitement to murder goes beyond free speech.

If I am walking down the street near the liberal high school, and I am wearing my Jewish star and my companion is wearing a yarmulke, while a group is marching yelling “Death to Jews!” - and SOME of them attack us, the ones who INCITED it are also criminally liable.
