Washington - Following a tumultuous — and some may say — reckless — three weeks gutting government agencies vital in running our country, The Trump Administration has now set his crosshairs on the US Department of Education, claiming it should be dismantled.

"Listen, just because just because literacy has fallen in colleges around the country since the Department of Education was started in no way means the Department is not needed" said democrat Senator Chuck Schumer. "And just because fact-based student knowledge of American civic institutions is appallingly low, and students study embarrassingly little (and sharply less than in the era before the Education Department), with the rise in grade inflation that has continued strongly on the Department’s watch, in no way reflects that Trump should be allowed to close the Department down. On the contrary! We suspect students maybe can't see that well to read now days. That is why we are suggesting starting the Department of Vision, headed by a strong union for Ophthalmologists, just like the Teachers union was created with the Department of Education."

"Imagine how low the falling score numbers for students would have been without the Department" interrupted Nancy Pelosi. "Students today would be literal drooling vegetables without the Department today in my opinion. If that ever happened, the only thing they would be qualified to do is run for Congress, but there simply are not enough seats to fill to give them jobs."

This weekend I was listening to a show on how Republicans don't really want to do away with the Department of Education. Something about Title 9? They explained why they love it and why they hate it.

It doesn't just fund inner city poor black schools. It helps rural schools. Small white communities. Without title 9 these small hick white schools would be screwed. And Republicans would lose elections if they cut them off from the government cheese. Where WE pay for their goobers educations.

Why hasn't the Department of Education been shut down yet?

Because is it Trump and Elon against the Swamp.

Trump is just a punching bag people use to build support for the status quo.

I don't think anyone really believes he can make substantive change, but at least maybe we get a reprieve from it.

The White House confirmed that it is preparing to take executive action to shutter department programs that are not protected by law, and will call on McMahon, once confirmed, to draw up a blueprint for Congress to close the department entirely.

During Thursday's hearing, the committee's Republican chairman, Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, asked McMahon to elaborate on these plans.

"We'd like to do this right," McMahon said, saying she would present Congress with a plan to dismantle the department "that I think our senators could get on board with."

The department cannot be officially closed through executive action alone. It was created by an act of Congress in 1979 and can only be closed by an act of Congress.

Multiple senators asked whether the department's dismantling would include cuts not just to the department but to the federal funding for K-12 schools it administers, including Title I (for students in lower-income communities) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA, for students with disabilities).

McMahon said repeatedly that she considers the department separate from the funding. The former, she said, can be dismantled without affecting the latter. "It is not the president's goal to defund the programs. It was only to have it operate more efficiently."

Later, McMahon elaborated that IDEA funding, for example, is protected by statute and would not be targeted for cuts. But, she offered, it might be more effectively administered by a different agency, perhaps the Department of Health and Human Services.

To that, New Hampshire Democrat Maggie Hassan scoffed: "I just want to be clear, you're going to put special education into the hands of Robert F. Kennedy Jr."

Well there ya go. If it takes Rhinos to vote it away, it will never happen.

I rest my case.

It's for their constituents. I guess their constituents depend on the federal government more than they thought.

Is that your move? Call people RINO's when they don't go along with your rotten plans? You know the only reason they are going along with you now is their voters told them to. As soon as their voters turn on Trump, so will they.

Most of what Trump is doing is going to cause pain in red states. Let's see how much they are willing to put up with.

There are no conservative in the Swamp

They are all on the take at the expense of the American taxpayer

Once Trump is gone, they will flush all away any changes he makes with a stroke of a pen and return to the status quo you love so much. That way we can start paying for sex changes for Hamsters in Indonesia once again.

Well then there are no conservatives. You're going to see Trump keep things a REAL conservative thinks is unconstitutional. Why? Because it would hurt RED communities.

It would be simple if all Musk cuts only hurt liberals and black folk but that's not what's happening

I am enjoying the fact that much of where tax dollars are actually going are finally being exposed.

If you can't have the change, the truth is the next best thing.

But again, once Trump is gone then the pond scum will cover it up again, with your full approval.

I love that they are cutting the government. I know it's a big beaurocracy that we could cut in half and still get along just fine.

But ultimately, you're not going to find that much that we can live without. In other words there are good things the Department of Education and Department of Energy do.

Let's see if Linda really does away with the Department of Education. Or will she just merge it with the DHHS?

And will all these cuts lead to paying off the debt or lowering our taxes? And I'm not just talking about a one time thing where Trump sends everyone $5000 and that itself causes inflation. I'm talking about lasting change that fixes the economy for uneducated, blue collar workers. The only ones not doing well right now. Everyone else is doing fine. Most of us got raises that made up for inflation. When BIDEN was president.

Let the states decide. The DOE is a disaster

I don't know, abortion returned to states
And what happened with abortion laws?

Abortion laws became more liberal than under Roe, thanks to democrats passing Constitutional amendments in those states that removed all state regulations with most voters unaware of what they were really voting for.

In fact, more women had abortions after Roe was struck down than before

That is why they allowed it.
