We agree on most of this. The core problem is the two party system and they have kept that power by demonizing the other side. Politics today is not vote for me because I am great. Instead, its vote for me because the other guy wants to murder children in their sleep and serve them on the dinner table. We donÂ’t want to bother with the fact that it is false, that is minor detail. We will just say it until its true.
We do have the power though. The people just need to wake up to it. As long as we vote for this guy out of fear for the other one, we are going to continue to end up serving the same masters.
Since the masters finance the same election campaigns and retirements of Republicans AND Democrats alike, waking up would seem to require choosing representatives and senators who don't serve the same corporate interests.
Which will be virtually impossible to do consistently, even if we want to. We can't see into the hearts of candidates and know how they will govern once elected. But what we can do consistently, if we make it a priority, is minimize their ability to serve those corporate interests in the first place.
I realize most liberals today aren't enthusiastic about the idea of limited government. They see it, usually, as an attempt to hamstring their agenda - and there's no denying it would put a damper much of it. But I have hope that they can come to realize that same broad powers we've allowed government in the name of social justice, are used to serve the interests of anyone who can manage to twist enough arms (or grease enough palms) on K street.
When we give up on equal protection and rule of law in the name of targeting minorities for special help, we open a pandora's box that can and will be used to "help" (and by omission, harm) any groups that our leaders designate. Simply put, once we start using government to grant special favors to
anyone, no matter how much we might agree they deserve it, we open the door for politicians who will 'sell' such favors to the highest bidder. That door's been open a while now, and if we can't figure out a way to close it, the international corporations that we fostered will bleed us dry and move on to greener pastures.
