I've long held that the real battle between the two parties is for control of the DC swamp/establishment and all the financial reward that comes with it. The party that is losing the war for establishment favor must turn to the voters for support and to remain relevant. There really is no way to serve the people and the DC swamp/establishment at the same time. Democrats are learning this the hard way, albeit extremely slowly. Eventually the GOP will regain the top dog position with the swamp/establishment and the democrats will be forced to actually appeal to the people again.
