Democrat Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs Under Fire After $339 Million “Disappeared” from State Budget as Hobbs’ Budget Director Mysteriously Resigns

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs is under active investigation for allegations of bribery, fraud, conspiracy, and racketeering, as state authorities and legislative leaders probe her administration’s financial dealings. The inquiry centers on accusations that Hobbs and other Arizona Democrats allegedly accepted $400,000 in bribes from Sunshine Residential Homes, a state contractor, in exchange for directing millions in taxpayer dollars to the company.

The Arizona Auditor General’s Office is now assisting Maricopa County investigators, following a request from Joint Legislative Audit Committee Chairman Alex Kolodin. The Arizona Legislature is also conducting its own inquiry, with some lawmakers calling for federal involvement by the FBI and the Department of Justice.

State records indicate that under Hobbs’ oversight as budget director, $339 million in taxpayer funds remains unaccounted for. The missing money was initially reported as a $339 million shortfall but has since risen to $350 million, prompting further scrutiny from lawmakers.

Key Developments in the Investigation

  • State Senator Alex Kolodin raised concerns over the insolvency of multiple Arizona agencies, demanding an explanation for the shortfall. In a formal request to the Governor’s Office, Kolodin accused state officials of misleading the Legislature about their spending approvals.
  • The Arizona Auditor General’s Office has formally committed to working alongside Maricopa County investigators, focusing on Sunshine Residential Homes’ contracts and financial transactions linked to Hobbs’ administration.
  • Sarah Brown, Chief Adviser to Governor Hobbs, abruptly resigned amid the growing scandal, further intensifying speculation about misconduct at the highest levels of Arizona’s government.
  • The Arizona Republic reported allegations that Sunshine Residential Homes funneled $400,000 in bribes to Hobbs and other state officials, leading to millions in government contracts.

Calls for Federal Investigation Intensify

Amid mounting concerns, some state lawmakers are urging the FBI and the DOJ to intervene and expand the probe into potential federal crimes. “Investigation and prosecution by the FBI and the DOJ is long overdue,” one Arizona official stated.
