While white is the modern, *traditional* color for brides in America, historically speaking, it is not exclusively the color for weddings.
And in fact, Mary Queen of Scots shocked the world when she wore a white gown for her first marriage to the French dauphin...because the French viewed white at that time as a color of mourning. RED is the color of traditional wedding
dresses in China, India and Cambodia....traditional Japanese weddings use white gowns...but the white symbolizes death, not purity or anything else. it's the death of the bride's connection to her family, and as the ceremony moves forward, the white is shed for RED, which represents birth and new life.
