"In an exclusive report, TIME noted, "DeJoy’s departure comes weeks after he struck an agreement to allow Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to help the agency cut costs and remove bureaucratic red tape."

DeJoy leaves as head of USPS because the plan is to go private.

"The news comes after officials with the American Postal Workers Union warned carriers and other Postal Service workers that Elon Musk and Postmaster General Louis DeJoy may privatize their operations"

I think this was the plan all along. Same with the other agencies DOGE has infected.

they have been trying to privatize it in the whole time i worked there....

This is just silly. Made up nonsense.

The Post Office CANNOT BE PRIVATIZED. It is one of the things that Congress is specifically empowered to do (spend money on) under Article I.

Which is to say, we are stuck with it.

Whether Elon Musk or anyone else can make it more efficient is anyone's guess, but it will ALWAYS be an arm of the Federal Government.

The best thing that could happen would be Congress passing a law outlawing collective bargaining in the Federal Government, and particularly in the USPS.

But that ain't happening.

the best thing that could happen is to let the people they pay to run it...run it. and get the govt out of it....

Given that the Post Office was created by the Constitution, can it even be privatized?
No company will ever make money delivering to every household in the USA. The purpose of the Post Office isn't to be profitable. It's to deliver mail to every household in America.

Government is NOT a business and isn't meant to be operated as such.

USPS is self supported/funded by it's users.

Privatizing means it eventually would get sold off and end up in shareholder accounts driving up the price of services.

Paper mail for communication is circling the drain.

Are you a complete idiot, Leo???? It's not for "paper mail", you dolt. It's for packages - medicines, and other deliveries to parts of the country where stores aren't on every corner.

The moronic idiocy of Trump voters knows no bounds.

The founding fathers knew that a proper communications network is needed for a functioning Country...

Leaving that to the lowest bidder with less and less redundancy puts US at risk..

The postal service needs to remain federal. Cut costs by reducing deliveries to three days a week with in person pick up options. It is the only reliable method to reach every household in the country.
