Deadly Night of Tornadoes

My sister-in-law works at the Mayfield courthouse/jail. It was hit and partially collapsed. She went in to assist in the evacuation of inmates.

Do they live in Mayfield?

West Kentucky Rural Electric says power outages in the area could be 'lengthy,' as transmission lines are down and there is 'widespread damage' to their system. They also add that cell towers have been damaged and that phone lines are overwhelmed.

I'll give a little reminder to have flashlights (with batteries) handy. It's also not a bad idea to have candles with a wide base that won't tip over.

Oh my I'm so sorry. That town was hit terribly. I couldn't believe the images to be honest. Awful. Prayers for all.

Just a reminder that it's called "tornado alley" for a reason.

I'm in Toledo, Ohio and my weather station in the back yard logged a 63 mph wind gust overnight, a mere few seconds after it logged 0 mph wind speed.

I surmise that it was a microburst.

Those USB charged LED worklights are very handy; you can charge them up in your car if you have an adapter. They will light up your whole yard as well as your house.

According to Kentucky's governor, this is one of the deadliest outbreaks in Kentucky's history....

The indications are that Mayfield tornado was probably an F-5 (the strongest, with over 200mph winds, and a storm track up to a mile wide)....

We need to keep these people in our prayers.....
