Cracker Barrel Loses $100 Million in Value

lets just address one of your lies----------tariffs. you said that tariffs raised taxes on the working class and not the wealthy. you obviously do not understand tariffs. There are no tariffs on US produced goods---zero. So are you saying that the working class only buys imported products? and that the wealthy only buy US products? Do you see how stupid that sounds? Let me give you a good tariff example. Italy puts a 100% tariff on Harleys. Why? so Italians will buy Italian motorcycles. it works, no Harleys are sold in Italy.

A Harley would be completely impractical in Italy. Harley isn't so much a brand as a lifestyle. (And I heard that directly from a Harley Dealer)

Of course, the working class are paying the tariffs because the costs of products are eventually passed down to them.

A tariff is regressive tax. If you make $55,000 you spend all your money on stuff you need, a lot of it on inexpensive import goods. You get crushed by the tariff. If I make $1.2M a year I spend a tiny sliver of my money on stuff I need, and much less on inexpensive import goods. The tariff hits the working class, not the wealthy.

Its great you want to emulate Italy's amazing economy which is smaller that California, New York, Texas, and Florida hanging out near Illinois.

There isnt an Italian Motorcycle company anywhere near the top:

Economics is not your thing is it. Raising tariffs on foreign aluminum, increases the price of domestic aluminum as well as manufacturers attempt to substitute them. There's a reason Republicans liked low tariffs since the mid 1800s.
not true. domestic producers do not raise their prices to foreign price levels. they keep them low so they will sell their products. you really need an econ 101 course.

wrong, lower income people do not buy more expensive foreign goods. they buy what is least expensive and due to tariffs domestic products are the least expensive.

Lower income people buy more INEXPENSIVE foreign goods. Those INEXPENSIVE foreign goods are going up in price. PLUS they spend a HIGHER percent of their income on necessities which makes a tariff regressive. Where did you study economics?

They raise them when their CGS rises because of those tariffs. Again, basic economics.

Not hardly. Their inputs rise because of those tariffs, and their prices rise because of higher demand. Again, basic economics.

When was the last time you bought aluminum?

If you don't, how does the price increase effect you? It keeps your neighbor employed at the aluminum plant.

Harvard. you? Now. because of tariffs, domestic goods are the best buy for both rich and poor, and US companies are selling more of their products to American buyers. It works.

I just saw a tv commercial yesterday and they were using the new brand. Aren’t they smart enough to pull the ads?!
Probably not. They still have to pay everyone to change everything back.
I think that CEO is going to get fired over this.
She must have made it all sound great when she proposed the changed....but now they're paying close to $1 billion for doing it.

There are too many doofus lib females running major US corporations

Sure. University of Michigan and the University of Florida. Masters and several undergrad degrees.

If you are a smarty pants then you are not demonstrating that skill set.

If you were buying jeans from China (Wrangler) for $35 and the cheapest US made jeans are $110 (this is a real example) raising the $35 wrangler jean costs screws the lower class and doesnt make the domestic price better for anyone. Wealthy people are still spending $199-$500 for designer jeans and the poor are spending $44 now (real example).

Even on stuff they all buy, like apples. If you raise the price of imported apples then apples cost more for everyone. Its just that an apple is .5% of a normal persons daily wages, 1.5% of a poor persons daily wages, and .005% of a wealthy persons wages.

Anyone from Harvard, Michigan, Florida, community college or high school should be able to follow that.

Community college grad here.

And you left out the most important number.

What is the basement for producing cheap jeans in AMERICA?

Sure the chinese have driven out the Americans out of the cheap jean market, we can't compete with their low wages, when teh final price is 35$ a pair.

But what is the lowest that CHEAP JEANS could be made in American.

you sort of implied by omission, that the number is 110$, but that's obvious only in the status quo situation of the market price breing 35$

If tariffs raise the price of the jeans to say, 45 dollars, then if an American producer could get a pair of jeans to market at 40 dollars, then that opens up a chance for AMERICAN PRODUCERS AND JOBS.

Clearly, COMMUNITY COLLEGE > HARVARD. boo-YAH.

I'll call your community college and raise you working in the apparel industry at times in my career. Here is a pretty accurate cost compare I threw into Excel. You tell me how this is helping the working class.

I will accept your numbers, they look believable.

At this level, it seems that a 35% tarriff is insufficent to DIRECTLY help on this product.

Mostly likely at this level, the consumers will just eat the slightly higher cost. Perhaps reduce consumption slightly to compensate. We could see a slight rise in clothing repair or hand me downs. Both of which would be fine.

Also, perhaps some other country, would be able to cut a deal with US, offering us something else of value, in exchange for them being allowed to compete in the US market at a lower tariff rate than China.
