Well after all, for the party of the rich why would they even have to worry about earning minimum wage at all? That's for the struggling Middle Class and many others don't you know. But knowing that they, themselves, could not live on minimum wage, how do they expect others who are less financially fortunate than they are to live on it? Good question to which they would rather just prefer to sweep under the carpet and hope Middle Class Americans just forget about it. Oh, but don't forget they are asking for your vote!

No one is expected to "live on" the income of a college student. And minimum wage are SUPPOSED to be transitory.. And in large part they are and always have.

What is inhumane is to PROMOTE THE JOB and not THE PERSON. Which is what raising wages actually does. Does not IMPROVE the career outcome in any way, because no skills or career development is involved. If it was up to me --- You could not hire anyone for a Min Wage job unless they were students and enrolled in SOME TYPE of career building education. Let the employers SUBSIDIZE their education instead of raising the wage !!! With only an exception for the disabled or retired..

I lived on 5.15 an hour for the better part of a year. I fed and clothed myself adequately. The next job I had paid 8.25 an hour, automatic pay raise for already being proficient in that line of work. That should tell you to work for a raise, not demand one.

Wait, I thought you were trying to slam Republicans, so what's with this "Party of the Rich" business? After all, it's the Democrats who are in the hip-pocket of Wall Street.

But knowing that they, themselves, could not live on minimum wage, how do they expect others who are less financially fortunate than they are to live on it?

Wage levels, all throughout the economy, are set in relation to productivity and what someone is willing to pay, they don't exist independent of these foundations and so they're not subject to legislative dictates.

If an unskilled worker and only produce $8 of value per hour for his employer, then when you pass a law mandating a minimum wage of $12 per hour you're not going to see this worker being paid $12 per hour and instead you'll see this worker fired and his task either eliminated or replaced by some substitute.

But I'm not a total ideologue nor a total hard-ass - I'm willing to bend on this minimum wage issue as part of a grand bargain. I'll favor raising the minimum wage up to $15 per hour in order to completely and thoroughly dry up the market for illegal alien labor. Tough enforcement of labor regulations for employers with regards to citizenship and prison time for hiring illegals and in return you can have your job killing $15 per hour minimum wage. It's long past due that the American economy started rationalizing and replacing no skilled labor with more machines and robots.

And when I lived on minimum wage, I grabbed a couple of roommates, and while nothing is perfect, it was I, who relied upon my own initiative without seeking a handout from anyone. It motivated me to stay in school and get a degree which would open new fields of opportunity to me.

Very simple.

hey genius.....I see you've been trolling the lib blogosphere, failed to catch anything so you slithered over to old liberal reliable, MSNBC so that you could find an opinion on an issue with which you agree.
Newsflash, the min wage is not and never will be a means on which a person is to make a living.
Now please cut the bullshit.

That's good advise for the GOP that thinks they CAN'T do it or live on those miniscule wages.

I lived on minimum wage for several years.

Again the problem is, raising the minimum wage won't fix it either. What it will do is make people unemployed.

The MSNBC crowd is so completely ignorant, that they really believe making people unemployed is a 'fix'.
