Could hurricane Sandy postpone the Presidential election?

What make you so sure about that? We'll have to wait a couple of days I think. It is more realistic than ever before.

Our election happens on the first Tuesday of November, period.

There is no Constitutional provision to postpone a Presidential election.

I know this is purely academic, but Congress could make the election on whatever day they decided to, for whatever reason. Article II.

The current date is so entrenched, I doubt anything 'would' make them change it... but it is not outside their powers to do so.

In The Netherlands it is also never postponed. We were close in 2002 with the murder on Pim Fortuyn who was running to become the Prime Minister from the country.

If the dykes broke and Hans Brinkers is nowhere around than we got a huge problem here. Half the country is below sea level. We are a small country so we can postpone it easier than the US.
