An activist group of shareholders backed by a right-wing think tank are trying to pressure the bulk wholesaler club store Costco into dropping its diversity, equity and inclusion policies — but the company is pushing back — hard, reported CNN on Friday.

According to the report, Costco's board of directors "unanimously recommended that its shareholders vote against a proposal brought by a conservative think tank, the National Center for Public Policy Research, that would require Costco to evaluate and issue a report on the financial risks of maintaining its diversity and inclusion goals. The group criticized Costco for possible 'illegal discrimination' against employees who are 'white, Asian, male or straight.'"

However, Costco's board noted that its diversity policies improved sales — and accused the think tank of disguising a culture war battle as a risk management policy.

huh?

"Costco's board noted that its diversity policies improved sales..."

All you need to know. They are idiots.

I occasionally shop at my local Costco, and I have seen no indication of diversity, equity, or inclusion, although I don't know what the last two are. I shop there for the products and prices, and couldn't care less who is working in the store.

Hey, If Costco wants to continue their "Woke DEI program", let them and let's see what happens.
Will customers continue to purchase Costco goods or go elsewhere?
Seems Target learned a lesson, yet Costco has not.
There's always Sam's Club you know...

Wait, so discrimination is ok if it increases sales?

People like Larry Fink of Black Rock control over $20 trillion dollars. Fink pressures the corporations into being extremist politically correct.

People need to attack the government and the super rich democrats like Fink

Costco seems to be an outlier to a failed program

Walmart HQ is in Arkansas.

Costco HQ is in Washington State.

Sam's Club it is.
Both Costco and Sams Club are doing well in my area

Costco is a little more upscale whereas Sams is more working class

If Costco despises white people it does not show in lost sales

Costco is the greatest store that ever existed

Never heard of this think tank, nor do I understand why they would even be petitioning their board

Weird.

Weird thread really

Let me help you out

NCPPR's work is in the areas of free markets, environmental and regulatory policy, retirement security, constitutional law, the First and Second Amendments, religious liberty, academic freedom, defense and foreign affairs. Particular areas of interest include global warming denial, endangered species, energy policy, environmental justice, job growth and economic prosperity, property rights, legal reform, health care, Medicare reform,[4] Social Security, civil rights, foreign affairs/defense and United Nations reform/withdrawal.

National Center for Public Policy Research is repeatedly cited as a member of the global warming denial organization Cooler Heads Coalition, which describes its object as "dispelling the myths of global warming by exposing flawed economic, scientific, and risk analysis", but reported on its blog in 2013 that it has not been a member for many years.[5][third-party source needed]

NCPPR is a member of the advisory board of Project 2025,[6] a collection of conservative and right-wing policy proposals from the Heritage Foundation to reshape the United States federal government and consolidate executive power should the Republican nominee win the 2024 presidential election.[7]

DEI is a very simple premise. If you have the skills, and work ethic, you deserve the job over a less qualified white person.

This is unacceptable to any conservative think tank, who disguise themselves as concern trolls, that the poor white person wasn't hired, because their skin color should have been given first consideration.

Well, they lost badly with that argument, so now it's a not good for business argument.

They're going to lose badly on this argument also, but that's what they're going with for now. Since the country is becoming less white, not more, it's an argument they can't win.

The companies that they think have stopped using DEI, are still using it quietly as to not draw attention, because the customers coming into their businesses, are reflecting that change in the population, so it's actually a business decision they are making.

Costco has just openly told these conservatives to go fuck themselve's, and will not suffer at all because of it. This drives white nationalist maga idiots nuts.

And that's why it's an issue, as much as they would have you believe it isn't. You know, because they make posts about it, or complain about woke or anything.

Why was Costco even talking to the think tank? That’s what isn’t clear and weird.

Did they contact them for a report?

Costco didn't contact anybody. They voted to disregard the pushback by the think tank, who tried to use undue influence with shareholders that agreed with their stance. Being a right wing think tank, they do what right wingers do. They whine like petulant children, and in their estimation, believe that by making the story public, it will somehow shame Costco into compliance.

What pushback?

What undo influence?

Why did they have to take a vote on anything the think take wrote?

Costco's board of directors. Ten white people and one black guy.

When you won't walk the walk, it's important to talk the talk. You get this a lot with libs.

BTW the shareholders group who made the proposal to end the DEI programs cited these risks - “litigation, reputational, and financial risks.”. They are correct.
