The race to make humanoid robotics I believe is more of a romance and less a scientific approach....

Why imitate feet when wheels are so much faster?

Why imitate hands when you can build specific fit for specific task?

The perfect robot ( if there is such a thing) probably looks nothing at all like a human....

Just saying..
 
Nobody wants a sex-bot on wheels. ;)

Maybe for a robot maid.

For the dangerous things, like setting up a base on another planet, yes. The humanoid form wouldn't be practical until the infrastructure for humans is in place.

For those that would interact with the mouth breathers -- US -- they would have to conform more closely to what we are.

And then, as 1srelluc questioned, "What about the sex bots?"
