What we need is more community policing, more beat cops that walk the neighborhoods and get to know the residents and business owners. It should also be mandatory that every police officer is equipped with a camera on his uniform to drastically lower the level of police abuse as well as false accusations of abuse.

I think everyone is "scared" of crime, really. But not many people are too "scared" to defend themselves..

cops are good at writing reports for the insurance company after a property crime has been committed .

...but as far as rape, robbery, carjacking, even (attempted) murder they are useless.
When those things begin to happen, you're on your own. There isn't going to be any cop rush in to save you.

Be situationally aware, recognize the likely threats, have a weapon and handle it yourself.

THEN call the cops to come clean up the mess and take statements.

Take a look at what police officers here in Henderson, NV are getting paid and be prepared to vomit. These guys are making six figure salaries and in the past few years the city has had to pay out a $300k judgment due to police brutality, the former chief was pressured into resigning, and the police department is currently being sued by a family for a Third Amendment violation. Yes, you read that correctly, a THIRD Amendment violation.

My neighbor is a current PD officer. And along with past coworkers I still keep up with, he said something that is growing within the ranks of cops: They are ready to say **** it, disengage, and do only the bare minimum to get a check now.

I wonder if your friend thinks he's owed his job? If cops do this, then they need to be fired and replaced with men who believe in giving an honest day of work for their paycheck.
