Metal Thieves Are Stripping America’s Cities. Excerpt (embedded link):
New York Times said:
Metal theft has been an urban plague for decades, often rising alongside commodity prices. But the combination of the economic ills and social malaise lingering since the pandemic and soaring demand for metals, especially for copper, has brought this street crime to new levels.
Some theft involves elements of essential city infrastructure and even public artwork that once seemed immovable. Across Los Angeles County, more than 290 fire hydrants have gone missing since January.
These people have no agenda in life. When crime is not prosecuted what do people expect?

This has been going since the very first housing project was built in the early 1900's.

The Usual Suspects are doing it. Shock

The thing is the cost of these metals keeps going up so the incentive to try to steal them goes up as well.

I've had $30k 316 stainless tank anchor assemblies (about 50lbs each) stolen from one of my sites, they probably got $200-$300 each for the salvage value to whoever they fenced them off to.

They don't care, they're thieves. They'll do $50,000 damage to someone's property so they can steal $5 from them.

Costs them nothing.

No it has not. Quit making things up
Just because you weren't self-aware when it was happening doesn't mean it didn't happen.

It was. It did. Maybe not in the early-1900's but certainly in the latter half of the 20th century until today. Why do you think...... I give up. You really can't fix 'stupid'. You qualify.

No. The sheet rock crack head usually go for fixtures and air conditioners, not wiring, so they can deny involvement and still get paid for their sheet rocking.

China can't get enough copper to fill their manufacturing needs.

There were no copper pipes in the early 1900's. Barely any houses with wiring. Copper was so cheap, nobody thought of stealing copper.

You made shit up.

Up near crime infested liberal Seattle thieves kept breaking into a business robbing them. So they installed a fence all around their building...thieves stole the fence.

Now we know why democrats wanted to defund the police.
