Convention of the States: GOP has Required Number of State Houses

The Republican Party is now the overwhelming political majority in the United States. It can call for a new Constitutional convention.
Convention of States

Why does it matter who is in power in DC?

I thought states were in the drivers seat in terms of calling for a convention, not the Feds.

The brakes for their zeal, lest the pendulum swing again to far in the opposite direction, is the knowledge that in no way will their incumbent POTUS be re-electable in 2020 and in 2018, they could lose that power by a hair, just as swiftly as they gained it by a hair. Fickle is the middle voter. And the GOP had best pay attention because their knife cuts both ways.

Read the Constitution. This is about the Founders giving power to the states.

A Constitutional Convention, of course, can't change the Constitution. It can only propose amendments. They still have to be ratified by 3/4 of the states. If the states don't approve them, the proposals go in the trash can.

On the table:
Balanced budget amendment
Restrictions on Necessary and Proper Clause
Ban on abortions unless mother and child safety a risk
Term limits
14th Amendment...GONE!!!!

Poor liberals. They said the same thing about Trump for 2016.

They were wrong, as usual.

Looks like they're getting a leg up on being wrong again in 2020.

No doubt many wingnuts are already boasting that Trump can't win in 2020. We'll be hearing that quite a bit. But it'll be the same morons who boasted that this time around. Some folks will always be stuck on stupid. Trump could actually win even easier next time. That happens often for incumbents.

GO TRUMP! GO TRUMP!

True. But it would be one interesting mo-fo!

Be careful. Liberals will demand conditions, one of them being that Social Security programs are not subject to the BBA. That may or may not be a good idea. But it would mark the first time Social Security has ever been mentioned in the Constitution. Thus making it constitutional for the first time in history... which so far it hasn't been.
Restrictions on Necessary and Proper Clause
"Necessary and proper" is itself a restriction. If the liberals are violating that restriction, what makes you think they will obey the further restrictions you put on top of it?
Ban on abortions unless mother and child safety a risk
The safety of the mother is always at risk, even during a normal delivery. This "amendment" will do nothing.

An accepted definition of insanity, is doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result.

These "Trump can never win in 2020" loons are exhibiting a classic case of that.

Social Security would be safe. Abortion risk can be worded:"outside of normal birthing procedures." And Necessary and Proper Clause has been usurped by federal courts and the Congress.

A shame it took the left 8 years to gain such wisdom only now...

Interesting. I read that Republicans currently control 33 Governorships and 69 of 99 state legislative houses.

There's nothing wrong about what I said in my original post. It's just that you are right in that if they keep their rainbow platform, they will lose again in 2020. If they figure out a way to package themselves completely differently (good luck!), they could sweep Trump out of Office like the dust bunny he'll be by then..

Grassroots support for GOP and conservatism is overwhelming. Liberal media and Hollywood ignore it and try to set the agenda.

So what Republicans will do now is they'll try to codify into the Constitution all the draconian shit they have failed to do by national elections and by state legislatures.

Stuff like making abortion illegal across the board, and doing away with the 14th amendment, the 'equal protection' clause because, you know, why should there be equal protection for everyone.

Likely most of the amendments would get rejected because it requires a 3/4 of states to vote to approve something. But, if one or two of these batshit phony kristian crap-piles gets approved there will be civil war. Count on it.
