Controlling the media..New York Times Rebukes Pentagon’s Reporter Restrictions: ‘At Stark Odds With the Constitutional Protection

Who did not see this coming. All part of Project 2025 which proposes significant changes to news reporting, primarily by targeting public media and restricting the press's access and scope. Let us not dwell on that. Let us concentrate on this

The Department of Defense explains it "remains committed to transparency" but now requires approval before reporting can be published

The New York Times will not abide by new restrictions on reporters set by the Pentagon, which require pre-approval before reporting can be published, the paper announced Saturday morning. A spokesperson for the Times insisted such restrictions are “at stock odds with the constitutional protections of a free press in a democracy.”

The Times’ statement reads in full: “Asking independent journalists to submit to these kinds of restrictions is at stock odds with the constitutional protections of a free press in a democracy, and a continued attempt to throttle the public’s right to understand what their government is doing.”

I've predicted that some of these NG guys who are patrolling the streets with live ammo aren't trained for the task will resort to deadly force instead of the basic tennants of law enforcement. Apparently a reporter on the scene will have to wait for the whitewashing of whatever episode takes place before they can file a story. The good news (if you want to call it that) is that everyone has a phone these days and many if not most aren't worried about losing their access to the Pentagon. I doubt Suzi Homemaker will hold on on publishing what she records. Ironically, what the administration fears most shouldn't be someone like Major Garrett reporting a story where context is introduced and the DoD is asked about it; what they should fear most is a video on tiktok that they then have to go out and squash and then try to spin after the fact. They just make their own job much harder.

Its just another way that the administration is taking an old-world approach to today's events.
