The 40% pay raise was hidden in a 1,000-page plus continuing resolution.

Their salaries went from $174,000 -- which is already pretty good -- to $243,000.

That is a big, big raise. Not too many people get a 40% company-wide raise.

The last-minute continuing resolution was only needed because Congress did not do its job and pass a budget during regular order.

In other words, they did not do their jobs, and they didn't do their jobs so well that they figured they were owed a 40% pay raise.

Ofc they did. Article V, because Congress isn't going to unvote themselves The Lords of America.
They did that in Reagan's time. That started a huge downhill slide in representation.

Reagan had a hostile Congress most of the time. The House, I think his whole time.

It is very telling how they went about it -- Like a Thief In The Night.

If the House and the Senate want a pay-raise, it should be a stand-alone bill. Every time. Attaching it to a continuing resolution is cowardly. And if Johnson lets this fly, he needs to be removed as soon as the new House sits. In about 2 weeks

Since it is extremely unlikely that any representative even could read that 1500 page CR, it is possible that some of those who voted for it didn’t even grasp that they were voting to give themselves a raise.

I found the monstrosity with a quick search on Duck Duck:

Oh, I wholeheartedly agree with that.

It's even worse than you think.

Congress has not had a raise since 2009. So finally giving themselves a raise would not be so bad except...

...the federal minimum wage has not increased since 2009, either. And there is no minimum wage raise in this CRS.

TBF, its not the fed govts job to manage wages in the private sector. Thats why its called "private" meaning it aint none of their GD business.

The private sector has a long, long history of exploiting their workers.

And you know this.
They agree to terms. Its a MUTUAL agreement for them to work. We arent talking about slaves in Africa, "Mr. TrueConservative"
Go down another bottle of big govt bootlicker and shut it.

Congress is dysfunctional.

They don't deserve a raise like that.

I love i when smirking jerkoff Johnson has to go to Dems to get anything passed because he can't control the lunatic caucus & he also gets his marching orders from the MAL subhuman. What could possibly go wrong?

Well, you gotta understand that prices of living have really gone up a lot under their watch!
So, they are just rewarding themselves for the terrible job they have done. :uhh:

Nice to see someone is keeping up with the inflation they caused.

Gives me warm fuzzies all over.

Come on now....I hear AOC has been reduced to eating cat food.....You would not want them ta-tas to shrink away now would you? :boobies:

It does piss you off when the likes of Rep. Crockett will make over 200K.

Congress is functioning perfectly before raising their pay, if in fact that is what they did. Gridlock is best for the taxpayers. A do-nothing Congress does not spend money.

Should Congress have spent money to fight COVID?
Provide disaster relief
Fund infrastructure
