President Trump is not adhering to American principles in his policy positions on Venezuela. His top goal should be to transition Venezuela to a genuine Democracy; forget the oil, pursuit of the oil looks like America is acting like a colonial power from the 18th century where the controlling country looted the controlled country of its mineral wealth. This big grab for Venezuela oil will ruin America's reputation for many generations in developing countries eyes they will reasonably believe America cannot be trusted! President Trump should never have grabbed Maduro without Congressional authorization for one what if Venezuela and their anti-American allies decide to take a confrontational path what if Maduro's allies take American expatriates in Venezuela hostage what if Maduro's allies team up with China and fight the American oil embargo by shipping Venezuela oil in 55 gallon drums through Cuba and use a lot of smaller barges for the run from Venezuela to Cuba it will be a very costly burden on the U.S. Navy in terms of money and resources to deal with this and what if one of Maduro's allies step's into Maduro's shoes and runs all of Maduro's criminal enterprises just as Maduro did or more effectively this whole Venezuela effort by the Trump administration would have been for naught!

The 2024 Venezuela election were tainted because the Maduro opposition candidate that won the primary. Marie Machado was disqualified. It takes time to hold fair elections so the Trump administration should announce elections will be held in Venezuela in nine months and that a technocrat fifteen person governing board will be established until then to begin to dismantle the corrupt government that currently exist there. How to get a board of fair and good Venezuelans to begin to disassemble the corrupt narco-state and run the government in a good manner. Let the member of the Group of seven countries each select Venezuelan that will do a good job and America as the point country safeguarding the transition we get an additional three choices and the Secretary General of the UN gets three choices and Maria Machado and Edmundo Gonzalez as leaders that won in the last election each get a seat. The board can elect a Chief Executive Office to run the government and they can act like a limited legislative body. No one in Venezuela should make any big decision about Venezuela's mineral wealth until after the elections, it is too important the Venezuelan people should decide the direction on this matter through the elections.

Both chambers of the Congress should pass a resolution calling for the Trump administration not to try to run Venezuela not ally with Maduro's allies still in power in Venezuela and not try to exploit Venezuela for its oil and drive Venezuela to hold new elections within the year recognizing there is a lot of political prisoners in Venezuela that need to be released and Democratic movements need to be formed and built so that there can be free elections! If Trump complies than Congress can promise and deliver a financing bill that will pay for the cost to transition Venezuela to where they hold good and fair elections and such a Venezuela government is stood up to the point where they get their sea legs!

You mean, another endless boondoggle like always.

Yep, meantime, no one is grabbing oil, just want repaid for what Maduro has cost us, meanwhile no other country worries "how it will look" as they grab all the oil.

Good policies if you want America to be last.

Don't look for significant change to his foreign policy, by Congress. You very well may be waiting 3 years or definitely not until after January of next year. If it sucks, and it very well might, we are pretty much stuck with it, in the short term. No effective need to whine over future actions at this stage of the game. Feel free to write a strongly worded letter to you Senators and Representatives, if you like. But it is after Midnight and I recommend you get a good night's sleep.

We have Russia invading Ukraine. We have China threating Tiawan and Iran running a proxy war against Israel. So, tell me again how Trump will tarnish America's reputation.

So much ignorance, so little time!

Why can't he do all of that? Multitasking is his forte'.

Congress cannot change foreign policy. Not their job.

Otherwise excellent post! I think there may be hope for you yet as you have come to the realization that your TDS will not really change anything.

President Trump should never have grabbed Maduro without Congressional authorization
It might make you feel better to learn it was Biden who put a $25 million bounty on arresting Maduro. Trump simply got the job done properly.

LOL, Trump should collect the bounty out of Biden's purloined pension. Take it for the next 12 1/2 years @ $500K year.

Democrat's response to Maduro's capture should be enough, on its own, to keep intelligent people from voting for them. They obviously don't want to lead. They just want power.

President sets and is ultimate decider on Foreign policy, especially in short-term management, whoever the President may be, whether clueless and stupid or actually having a clue, and making use of advisors chosen by him, whether they actually understand foreign policy or just appointed, because they donated or promised to kiss someone's ass. This applies to all presidents, and always has, as far as I remember from AM History and Government.

If other nations don't like us, they should at least fear us.

So, you do not favor Trump incentives to US Oil companies, to invest in revitalization of that raped Venezuelan oil industry, and would leave it to the Communist/Socialist that destroyed it? Is that because you favor China, or just suspect Trump administration might be too stupid make it work?

Congress has numerous methods to keep the President in check. These type of laws are not it. That is why the House has impeachment power, but I doubt they can ever get the Senate to remove because the Democrats have reduced impeachment to a footnote in American history.
