Congratulations to the Trump Administration: The Genesis Mission

Some issues are so large and critical to the well-being of the country that the best approach for building out and running them is a public/private partnership. The Trump Administration sees that (which will annoy many of its fans), and has essentially created an AI Manhattan Project with the "Genesis Mission".

I definitely get the feeling that the general public isn't close to having a grasp on (a) how pervasive Artificial Intelligence (AI) is going to be in our lives (from careers to daily activities to finance to medicine to general health), or (b) that AI is no longer "in the future". It's right now. It's here.

Also happening right now is the fact that China is beating us in many areas of AI, from research to electric cars. The Trump Administration sees this and is acting. To make a long story short, the Genesis Mission is a collaboration (not a word we see much any more, sadly) using government as a backstop and a research infrastructure, allowing private businesses to do what they do best: Innovate. That's my kind of thinking. IF the partnership is run effectively, this could help us leave China in the dust where they belong: You can start here: LAUNCHING THE GENESIS MISSION

Another example of a public/private partnership is the Medicare Advantage program, an existing health insurance/delivery system that is popular and would only need a few tweaks to expand to everyone. It's just sitting there, operating well, waiting to be utilized.
Medicare Advantage sucks. I highly encourage everyone to not use it.

Negative.....I remember folks (including myself) seeing it as a job creator.....Which it was.

Over 17 million jobs in the U. S. were generated by the commercial internet, 7 million more than four years ago. More internet jobs, 38%, were created by small firms and self-employed individuals than by the internet itself. A McKinsey survey of over 4, 800 SMEs showed that 2. 6 jobs were created for every one destroyed, confirming the emergence of the internet.

Nobody is ready (or really understands) the job loss consequences of AI.....Even AI!

The impact of AI on the US job market is multifaceted. While AI is expected to lead to job displacement in certain sectors, it will also create new roles and opportunities. The demand for AI-specific skills and roles is on the rise, with companies investing in AI to enhance productivity and reduce costs. However, the transition for affected workers will require substantial reskilling and upskilling efforts. The outlook for displaced workers will depend on their ability to adapt to new skill requirements and the availability of supportive transitional pathways.

It reads to me like a lot of people will be displaced with fewer people with the AI skillsets necessary taking their place....And the above in blue was AI generated!
Technology threatening the workforce is as old as mankind
It assumes the output of a society is finite and any additional output will come at the expense of human labor.

AI will allow more to be done and will add to safety, quality, productivity, medical care.

Do you think CEOs will be replaced by AI?

It gets even crazier, because Google's quantum chip appears to work.

That multiplies everything by about a zillion.

I don't think most folks have any idea what's about to drop.
I can imagine China using AI to design a bioweapon to kill everyone without Chinese DNA. Then an American AI countering that weapon by developing a retrovirus that will insert Chinese genetic material into Americans to immunize them.

Then the Chinese saying, "ha ha, we tricked you, now you're all Chinese! That was our goal in the first place."

I think the threat is real this go-round.

One thing about it, we sure as hell won't need the millions of third-worlders that entered the country under Biden.

Maybe getting back to the "sweet spot" of our 1970 population would be a good thing. Sadly I won't live to see it.

I think AI will threaten hi tech workers more than menial labor

IBM's Deep Blue did beat Gary Kasporov(sp) at chess. The AI acreage covering warehouses (clouds on the ground) are simply more advanced computing. There's nothing to fear. Right HAL?

When there are far fewer tech workers and white collar middle management because they were displaced by AI there will be a corresponding drop for the need for lawn services and such. The housing price/shortage will solve itself too. ;)

AI will be like:

Damn, I wish I could live long enough to see it....Maybe AI won't be such a bad thing after all. :)

It annoys me, and you know I'm no fan of Trump. This kind of shit is why.

Funny - I'm currently reading a book on that:
I'll open up a thread on it when I'm done.

Trump has no clue about AI, and I don't trust him to appoint anyone who does.

I was talking to my son about AI the other day, and pointed out that we're witnessing the birth of something entirely new. But it has really dysfunctional parents (China and the US). It's gonna get funky.

A huge profit center for insurance companies too!

Sorry Mac, I've never trusted the notion of government and business becoming "partners". It's collusion of the worst sort, and "we the people" never win.

Way too much downside with AI.

This is one thing that I'd say that we are diffidently being exploited by the rich and those wishing to use AI to control us with.

It already controls the stock market....I fear AI is gonna make "1984" look like a walk in the park by and by because humans just can't help themselves from not trying to control other humans.

Now they will have AI "helpers".
"...because humans just can't help themselves from not trying to control other humans."

Isn't this the crux of most of society's problems?

Yikes. I hope this part was a joke.

Medicare Advantage has a lot of serious issues.

15th post
I think AI is the last step before the smoking crater.
The potential here is Star Trek (or beyond) on the high end and absolute catastrophe on the low end. It will only become massively amplified once it's combined with quantum. Google and others will see to that.

It's inevitable now, and it's here. The only bottlenecks are power (which is being addressed) and supply meeting demand. So it will all be about how we manage it.

And since we're no longer capable of working together to do anything, any reasonable person has a very good reason to worry about what is coming.

I think AI will help us tremendously
It’s potential is limitless

The internet will be great they said.

Everyone will have access to the facts they said.

It will be a boon to mankind they said.

It will raise the bar on the level of discourse they said.

It will make everyone smarter they said.
