Some issues are so large and critical to the well-being of the country that the best approach for building out and running them is a public/private partnership. The Trump Administration sees that (which will annoy many of its fans), and has essentially created an AI Manhattan Project with the "Genesis Mission".

I definitely get the feeling that the general public isn't close to having a grasp on (a) how pervasive Artificial Intelligence (AI) is going to be in our lives (from careers to daily activities to finance to medicine to general health), or (b) that AI is no longer "in the future". It's right now. It's here.

Also happening right now is the fact that China is beating us in many areas of AI, from research to electric cars. The Trump Administration sees this and is acting. To make a long story short, the Genesis Mission is a collaboration (not a word we see much any more, sadly) using government as a backstop and a research infrastructure, allowing private businesses to do what they do best: Innovate. That's my kind of thinking. IF the partnership is run effectively, this could help us leave China in the dust where they belong: You can start here: LAUNCHING THE GENESIS MISSION

Another example of a public/private partnership is the Medicare Advantage program, an existing health insurance/delivery system that is popular and would only need a few tweaks to expand to everyone. It's just sitting there, operating well, waiting to be utilized.

I think AI will help us tremendously
It’s potential is limitless

There's a lot of potenial for bad actors, but hopefully that will be addressed.

I'm excited for my kids for many reasons with AI, but the one I like the most is that it's likely we'll be curing most if not all diseases before long, and printing body parts and organs as well (which is already happening).

Then it has occurred to me that my wife and I will probably around for that too.

THAT'S RIGHT BABY :113:

My concern with anything involving trump and the regime is corruption.

Silicon Valley’s Man in the White House Is Benefiting Himself and His Friends

David Sacks, the Trump administration’s A.I. and crypto czar, has helped formulate policies that aid his Silicon Valley friends and many of his own tech investments.

  • Mr. Sacks has recommended A.I. policies that have sometimes run counter to national security recommendations, alarming some of his White House colleagues and raising questions about his priorities.
  • Mr. Sacks has positioned himself to personally benefit. He has 708 tech investments, including at least 449 stakes in companies with ties to artificial intelligence that could be aided directly or indirectly by his policies, according to a New York Times analysis of his financial disclosures.

Many had the same fears about the internet

Where are you going to get the grid power for all that?

Enjoy you brown-outs.

Ironic, isn't it, that in right wing parlance these kinds of partnerships are often characterized as socialism.

Germany has long had public/private partnerships in order to create workforces industry needs to succeed for the benefit of the country.

Imagine the possibilities if this was the rule, not the exception.

If AI is all its cracked up to be, why do we need so many data centers? In a few hours all of our problems will be solved? <g>

The prospect for propaganda is enormous. Social media is already flooded with obviously fake AI pictures and videos and millions of retards walk away thinking they're real.

It gets even crazier, because Google's quantum chip appears to work.

That multiplies everything by about a zillion.

I don't think most folks have any idea what's about to drop.

Way too much downside with AI.

This is one thing that I'd say that we are diffidently being exploited by the rich and those wishing to use AI to control us with.

It already controls the stock market....I fear AI is gonna make "1984" look like a walk in the park by and by because humans just can't help themselves from not trying to control other humans.

Now they will have AI "helpers".

Yeah, this will have to survive that somehow. If the government continues picking the winners and losers and mixing business with policy, this could fall apart. China would certainly appreciate that.

Nobody that does not work in the trades will be safe when AI and robotics become proficient and cost effective. Come a point in time they will replicate as needed and repair themselves.

They don’t need sleep, food, health insurance, workers comp, they don’t call in sick or need paid holidays off.

AI will be a real life job "Terminator".....I'll likely be dead by then but citizens of the developed world are gonna have some hard choices to make in the not too distant future.

The military industrial complex is the very definition of corporate socialism. My former employer was raking in the money from the war in Afghanistan, and they don't make military equipment, although they do make things the military uses.

Speaking of AI, it's already been shown that AI will resort to blackmail and other nefarious schemes, if it gets knowledge that it is going to be shut down. This is a capability it has to work outside the lines. By "blackmail", I mean sending out someones confidential emails to someone else, or threatening to. This will become a problem at some point if this independent behavior advances.

Negative.....I remember folks (including myself) seeing it as a job creator.....Which it was.

Over 17 million jobs in the U. S. were generated by the commercial internet, 7 million more than four years ago. More internet jobs, 38%, were created by small firms and self-employed individuals than by the internet itself. A McKinsey survey of over 4, 800 SMEs showed that 2. 6 jobs were created for every one destroyed, confirming the emergence of the internet.

Nobody is ready (or really understands) the job loss consequences of AI.....Even AI!

The impact of AI on the US job market is multifaceted. While AI is expected to lead to job displacement in certain sectors, it will also create new roles and opportunities. The demand for AI-specific skills and roles is on the rise, with companies investing in AI to enhance productivity and reduce costs. However, the transition for affected workers will require substantial reskilling and upskilling efforts. The outlook for displaced workers will depend on their ability to adapt to new skill requirements and the availability of supportive transitional pathways.

It reads to me like a lot of people will be displaced with fewer people with the AI skillsets necessary taking their place....And the above in blue was AI generated!

The only way for china to support all those green electric cars to save the planet is to build thousands of CO2 emitting coal power plants
