Colorblindness: Invasion of the Capitalism Punishers [Vanity Fair]

Modernism is all about networking and labyrinths and coordination, and those who fall behind Wall Street and NASDAQ are almost considered 'colorblind.'

That's the nature of capitalism itself, to promote fierce competitiveness, but what if all this 'wicked ambition' yields a form of terrible 'darkness' (in terms of urbanization)?

This patriotism-parable written for Thanksgiving was inspired by Casino. I didn't post it in the Writing section, since it's overly pro-capitalist, but what do you think?

"The modern city was a pit of gloom, as pirates and profiteers turned mercantilism into a form of urban decay, and greasy cheeseburgers were as 'sacred' as Thanksgiving dinners. It was if the Biblical prophecy about the End of Days or Great Tribulation was true. There was a 'palpable invasion' of market/trend 'punishers' who tortured those who were mighty but mouses."

red14.jpg

"The leader of this invasion was a fierce and evil masked fascist named Red-Man. Red-Man wanted to use the media and billboards to frighten people into thinking that Wall Street competitiveness would yield an eerie form of spiritual colorblindness, leading people think that ambition was more 'virtuous' than teamwork. Red-Man sent pirate-TV and radio-broadcasts in which he stated that Americans living in the modern city would have to answer Inquisition-oriented questions about the 'color' of NASDAQ."

red13.jpg

"Fortunately an urban vigilante named Batman, masked and mysterious, tried to save the day. He promoted ideals about altruism and media-enrichment to counter the terrifying work of the lethal Red-Man and his vile recruited urban ghouls/minions. One of these minions was a sledgehammer-wielding clown-face wearing brute named Mr. Hammer who simply devastated parked cop-cars in the city with his hammer. Batman wanted to tackle and incarcerate Mr. Hammer to remind American urbanites that capitalism does not necessarily breed 'color-furious messengers' of darkness."

red16.jpg

"Batman even drew silly stick-figure doodles of an invented character named Evil Elf who represented the consumerism-follies of Christmas-shoppers and the mad-rush of the holiday-season. Batman submitted these doodles to the NY Post and various tabloids to remind Americans that commerce and capitalism was both child-like and colorful --- and to help Americans forget about the eerie message of Red-Man that commerce was a 'machine' for network-colorblindness."

"A great fan of Batman was a junior-high student in Brooklyn named Joe who purchased a Mighty Morphin Power Rangers costume/outfit and wore it to walk around the city with signs that read, 'Batman is the true messenger of American color!' Joe gave himself the alias 'Beautiful Joe' so Batman would consider him a 'sidekick' or 'ally.' Batman realized that mobilizing everyday people to remember the intrinsic 'magic' of consumerism (e.g., McDonald's Happy Meals) would help Americans forget about the Great Tribulation brought by the nefarious warlock Red-Man. Batman concluded that Beautiful Joe really was a 'sidekick'."

red15.jpg

"Soon, fashion-designers and media-moguls started referencing and talking about the heroic work of Batman and the inspirational deeds of Beautiful Joe in new age ads about color-selections in modern urban apartments purchased by bright-eyed American newlyweds. These pro-capitalism ads cited the 'magic' of color and silk in commerce and how Batman reminded everyone that ambition does not necessarily create colorblindness. Would commerce survive this 'etiquette-tribulation'?"

red20.jpg

"Unfortunately, Red-Man's evil mistress, Medusa, a woman with flowing red hair and a predilection for terrorism, lured Batman into her 'lair' and poisoned his drink. Batman died. Everyone was devastated. Medusa laughed in disgusting pleasure. What would become of America now? Beautiful Joe prayed to God, and God sent his archangel Michael to deal with Medusa, Red-Man and the legion of evildoers creating mischief in the modern city."

red17.jpg

"Michael destroyed Red-Man's dominion and further enhanced the inspiration offered by Batman and Beautiful Joe. The city in America was safe again, and consumers were ready to celebrate and admire Vanity Fair, GQ, Burger King, Microsoft, and Hasbro. God was pleased, and Beautiful Joe was relieved Batman's work was not in vain. Michael told humanity that it was simply 'invaded' by 'capitalism punishers'."

red18.jpg

"Soon, media-celebrities like Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise wanted to complement this tide of optimism, so they began making movies like Edge of Tomorrow and You Are My Friend. This new 'direction' in media/entertainment effectively dismantled the haunting aura of Red-Man who ended up committing suicide. Would capitalism finally be safe from the red sea of anarchy?"

TRUMP: Batman did fine work...
CARTER: Maybe God helped him.
TRUMP: I believe Batman had help!
CARTER: Did you see the new issue of Vanity Fair?
TRUMP: Oh, the one with Lady Gaga in red?
CARTER: Yes, it was quite a sensation.
TRUMP: It seems Americans are celebrating consumerism confidently.
CARTER: Maybe Beautiful Joe should be given special commendations!
TRUMP: I'll see what the First Lady has planned for such a media-relation.
CARTER: Thank goodness capitalism is not dismantled by cynicism.
TRUMP: It's a deep crusade...
