A $30/week salary then was equivalent to a $190K+/yr salary today. (Using gold equivalency)

And also at the time we had a birth rate of over 3 children per woman in the USA....almost 4.

But somehow we have progressed as a society?

What facts? Women decided they didn't want to raise kids any more, they they pawned them off on gov day care and fullfilled themselves with jobs. People were no longer satisfied at the kitchen table, so they loaded up on even more corn sweetener and ran up med bills. People were no longer satisfied with basic television and a phone, so they paid for tv and got the latest and greatest gadgets. And on and on.
