I remember the TV warnings several times a day back in the 70s and 80s........if you have a gas home, you HAVE to check for built up gasses in your homes at least twice a year! Especially during the winter months when the house is closed up.

If you have a GAS line to your house........even if its only ONE..........TEST YOUR HOME FOR DEADLY GAS BUILDUPS!!! Cities used to give testing kits away for free.........check with your local City offices to see if they do. If not, you can get them for cheap online!!!!!
Especially do this if you RENT a home for a vacation or even stay with friends/family!!!!! Take a testing kit with you!!!!

Be SAFE!!!

That's so sad. The homeowners will be sued.

A full scale tragedy.

I'm surprised it does not happen more often what with the rapid spread of short-term rentals.

It seems with every town/county commission (planning or supervisors) meeting they have to deal with a raft of them in my AO.

The homeowners are dead.

Read the article before commenting next time.
You should just bugger-off.....The damn article looks to have been written by a 12 year-old. I had to read it twice before I figured it out.

Yasameen Sharif, a co-worker of Matthew Goldstein, said she believes the family owned the New Hampshire home for about six years, and that she had attended teacher weekends there that Goldstein had hosted.

That part should have been in the first paragraph, not eight down.

That does not take away the OP's sound message.

Article is written fine, Mr. Bean.

Liberal States mandate CO alarms in all rentals with CO-producing fixtures ... and in all homes sold ... here in the West we get combination alarms, smoke and CO ... and as a rental manager I used the more expensive sealed units so tenants couldn't steal the batteries ...

The first step is to properly maintain your gas-fired appliances ... c'mon ... it's not that hard ... even for PIGS boiling off the ocean with CARBON DIOXIDE ... natural gas is how PG&E murders its customers ...

Actually, there is a difference between natural gas and carbon monoxide. Natural gas has a smell to it to warn you it may be leaking. Carbon Monoxide is a byproduct of faulty equipment such as heaters and water heaters and is odorless. You would need an actual carbon monoxide detector in order to discover it. It's a good idea to keep one plugged in all the time.
