First try at making
Chocolate Babka was a success using this recipe:

However, since I used a bread machine just to make the dough. I used the ingredients, but not the directions, because bread macines you place liquids first on the bottom, then the dry ingredients and last the yeast on top, not touching the wet layer. I also skipped the crumble topping and just used the leftover egg whites to brush wash a gloss.
 
Ooh good idea, never thought to do that.
I've made a sfogliatella (lobster tail shape pastry) using croisant dough so perhaps
this recipe liken to making a swirled challah bread could be made instead of Chocolate to be like a sfogliatella.
The flavor of sfogliatella being sweetened Cheese filling(ricotta style)with candied orange zest (or can use orange extract) and cinnamon which can be swirled in the dough making it like a sfogliatella cheese danish loaf.
 
Forgot to mention that in making mine I use a cocoa powder with sugar powder blend with sprinkle of cinnamon and chopped up dark chocolate to make the chocolate swirl.
