Healthy sex, happy families. That is the official theme of China's 11th annual Guangzhou National Sex Culture Festival.

Yes, a sex festival, an annual exposition that seeks to redress the predicament of China's swamp of lonely people-married or not.

China's skewed demographic balance is reflective in the overwhelming presence of men at the festival. Its one-child policy alongwith sex-selective abortions and cultural preference for sons are to be blamed for the distorted gender ratio.

The festival is a three-day ritual with myriad erotic possibilities including displays of 'realistic' life-size female dolls, transgender fashion shows, naughty nurse costumes, 'aphrodisiacs' in shape of deer antlers and flesh-colored objects unnervingly termed "Captain Stabbing".
