New vessels with very specific land invading functions. China cannot claim their military expansion is for "peaceful, defensive purposes" anymore. Theh are fitted apparently with a 120 metre bridge type structure for movement of vehicles and men. These are specific for an invasion and they are brand new. Unless the world cuts China off from trade, we will be funding this invasioin much as the EU is funding Russias war. Time.for Trunp to sell Taiwan $10B worth of weapons? Taiwan would kick their asses

That has to be the most antiquated and ridiculous suggestion I have ever seen. Something like that could only be used after the beachhead is secured and air superiority achieved. A single anti-tank missile or dumb bomb could take it out of operation.

Why do you think we did away with the LST in the 1990s? Massive targets were all they were.

Why?

Taiwan is part of China, according to our own State Department.

How would we feel if China sold Gavin Newsom 10B in weapons to resist Trump and ICE?

If China invades Taiwan, we need to keep the hell out of it.

Taiwan has 13 beaches suitable for landing and all are surrounded by mountain passes .
These landing sites are heavily defended

Not so sure about that.

Taiwans' active duty military is only 150,000 men. They have 1.6 million reservists, but the problem with reservists (as anyone who has served in a National Guard or Reserve unit can tell you) is that they simply aren't as effective as active duty and take a while to get up to speed.

China has an active duty military of 2 million men.

the only question is how feasible is a cross=straight operation.

Wow, 150,000 against 2 million
Easy to see who will win.

Till you realize China must get that 2 million over 100 miles of ocean. That means those 150,000 soldiers will be fighting groups of a few thousand trying to land on a beach or helicopter in.
Taiwan will have tanks and armor fighting Chinese troops trying to make a beachhead

China has never fought a modern war or conducted amphibious landings …….not a good target to start

Again, it depends who acheives air superiority.

Iraq had a shitload of Tanks, too, not that it did them much good in the Gulf War.

Now, that said, I don't think China is going to attack Taiwan unless Taiwan does something really stupid like declare independence.

The question is, are we going to involve ourselves into an internal Chinese dispute that should have been resolved 70 years ago.

Russia invading Ukraine is a great example.
On paper, Russian would win in a matter of weeks. Ukraine was able to drive them back
A better example is the Russian Navy against no Navy for Ukraine. Using air and sea drones, Ukraine was able to destroy a third of the Russian Black Sea fleet and chase away the rest.

Point is, in spite of threats, China knows better than to invade Taiwan

It's a makeshift pier to unload supplies to beaches which have been secured after initial landings. Churchill originally came up with the idea and issued his memo "Piers for use on beaches" in 1942.

The Mulberry harbours solved the problem of needing deepwater jetties and a harbour to provide the invasion force with the necessary reinforcements and supplies, and were to be used until major French ports could be captured and brought back into use after repair of the inevitable sabotage by German defenders. Comprising floating but sinkable breakwaters, floating pontoons, piers and floating roadways, this innovative and technically difficult system was being used for the first time.

Only with the Allies assistance
Probably
And they would get air, naval and submarine sUpport

Even without, they could do serious damage to an invasion force

Drones scare me

If the communist china secures Taiwan it will mean world hegemony for Beijing and slavery for everyone else, including America

China can afford serious damage to an invasion force

If Taiwan kills a million PLAs before being overrun who cares?

Life is cheap in china

Ships and aircraft are not endless

You still need to land troops on heavily defended beaches

Exactly

Breaching the First Island Chain give the communist dictatorship access to the Pacific and makes china the greatest economic power in the world

Red china has enough of both to overcome Taiwan if the US does not intervene

Maybe eventually

I would really worry about drones
They have redefined modern warfare.

Ukraine has shown what drones can do
They wiped out one third of Russias Black Sea fleet and chased away the rest.

Add in AI technology and drones do not need operators and can operate as a coordinated swarm meeting an invasion

Loses in men and aircraft or ships do not matter to the chicoms as long as they win

And they would win eventually without Allied intervention
