China halts export of rare earthes

You are now building your wealth on a lower base. That's not good for you long or short term. The market is perfect democracy. It's voters voting with their pocketbook. Their votes say that this trajectory is a worse outcome than what was being done under Biden.

Inflation was tamed for the last 2 years and now it is positioned to explode again due to Trump's policies. Ask any economist from either party.

I am not the typical American so my financial situation is not typical. I do empathize though as many Americans are facing lower savings, higher house prices, and a president that doesnt care about affordable healthcare.
and the Market is up again today ..

I read recently that 75% of our ships are built by China. WTF? China stopping the shipment of rare earth materials shows just how incredibly vulnerable we are.

Wresting control of manufacturing that is essential for national security should have been done years ago.

Yes
The rare earths and specialize magnets are critical to production high end autos, airplanes, communications equipment, and many products used by military contractors. China currently produces 90% of the rare earths.
and tell us why China produces so much and the US so little .. 2 words ...dem greenies ..

China plans to take over the world, period.

So, what will the world do about it?
I think it's the Chinese -- They don't know what to do. They're not as single-minded as some think. There is significant in-fighting, particularly with the PLA (peoplesliberationarmy) and the political arm.

The PLA wants collective leadership and Xi wants absolute rule.

I suspect there is some disagreement in the ranks on how to respond. They really don't want a War. One they would lose. Badly. Very badly.

Because the battlefields....? Would all be on Chinese territory.

If it comes to Nukes, everybody loses. Except the cockroaches

This will allow Trump to declare a national emergency and drill for rare Earths here in America

China is also grateful to Biden for surrendering Afghan lithium deposits. Biden was one of the best investments the CCP ever made
Goodluck -

Specifically, the U.S. is 100% reliant on imports for at least 12 key minerals deemed critical by the government, with China being the primary import source for many of these along with many other critical minerals.

The US better up it's mining of Barite, otherwise it'll end up stopping oil and gas mining.

Can the US replace them in time?
if China wants to use rare earth minerals as leverage against the US the US could use its large food exports against the CCP which absolutely cannot feed its own people without food imports ..but I hope it doesn't come to that .. and I believe it wont .. a fairer trade deal for the US will be made unless the CCP wants to be the only holdout against the world ..

Yep, once again highlighting the brilliance of Trump working with Greenland to make us less reliant on the CCP and their slave labor

We've known about the vulnerability to China's Rare Earth elements for a long time. We have people, some of them pretty smart, whose only job is to make sure we aren't hurt by actions such as these. We've probably got a pretty big stockpile, enough reserve, to see us through about anything.

It has been true throughout written history that China's downfall has always been its arrogance. They were arrogant with the Mongols, they were arrogant with the British, with the Japanese and now, with us.

I don't believe China's history of getting its ass kicked by foreigners is lost on the current leaders

So that kind of destroys the idea that Biden was some kind of disaster for the economy. If he had caused a recession or something, employment would have dropped.
When did I say he was?

Rare earth metals are just one thing. Most of our ships are built by them. Christ, I read that our military small arms ammo is supplied by Thailand and one other tiny country that slips my memory.
Its insanity.

No. China doesn't build our Naval Ships.

Wherever you got that from..... I'd stop going there

According to the U.S. Trade Representative, China has not contacted either his office or President Trump since April 2nd. In an effort to pressure China back to the bargaining table, Trump repeatedly raised tariffs—at one point up to 145%—yet received no response. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce later suggested that Trump should reconsider these tariff hikes. In turn, Trump issued a 90-day extension, but again, China remained silent. Eventually, Trump hinted that the extension might be cut short.

China did respond—but not in the way Trump had hoped. It announced the suspension of all rare earth and specialized magnet exports. Exporters must now apply for a permit, a process that can take anywhere from 60 days to several months. This delay gives the Chinese government time to assess whether these shipments might ultimately end up in the United States.

Here’s why this move is critical: China produces 90% of the world’s rare earth elements and controls about 70% of the global supply. These minerals are essential for advanced manufacturing, including the production of automobiles, aircraft, communications equipment, and various technologies used by defense contractors. In effect, China has a strategic chokehold—and now the ball is in Trump’s court.

China’s next move may not be economic but military. Xi Jinping has maintained control of the military with assertive declarations that the reunification of Taiwan with mainland China is inevitable. This aligns with a plan introduced in 2019 to integrate Taiwan under a framework similar to that of Hong Kong. However, Xi is quickly running out of options.

^ Cheerleading for Xi and China

Yes, that might be a reaction.

I don't see how Trump's tariffs on China exports would have any effect on China's miliary. However application of those tariffs could well push China into a position where military action is there only logical choice, if their suspension of rare earth shipments does not work.
Do you know how much effort America and it's allies would apply to ensure the removal of the leader of a nation that attacks them?
