– Count 4: Felony obstruction of justice for discarding the clothing he wore during the shooting
– Count 5: Witness tampering for asking roommate to delete incriminating messages
– Count 6: Witness temperating for demanding trans roommate stay silent, and not speak to police
– Count 7: Commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child

If he beat count 1, counts 2-4 would more or less have to drop off too.

Either way, this is an inevitable plea deal so no use arguing over it.

Not my point !

AND: No plea deal here...the GOV is going for the death penalty. It's a slam dunk !

I have a lot of mixed emotions about the death penalty. The one good thing about it is the offender is on death row for like 20+ years if they fight it.

The governor doesn't get to decide. That will be up to the elected District Attorney

What makes you think that?
To get the guaranteed guilty locked down. The appeal would be about dragging the prosecutor through the mud among other things otherwise. Shooter has not confessed.

He did confess, in a text message to his lover and friends.

The only reason to offer a plea is if there was a change of jury nullification. Which seems improbable in Utah.

You mean in a text that has not been authenticated in a conversation history of sarcasm sent from a phone they cannot put in his hands at that time?

That X 1000 is why it will be a plea bargain.

Yup. Good luck with that,

NFW will the state offer him a plea. NFW
Yawns. Tell that to the Idaho college students family. Prosecutors want the Win not the Work. They'll do that "So the family won't have to go through it" yack yack like they always do. There are only 4 people on death row in Utah and in the 17 years since they last sentenced someone to death only 3 executions have happened for ancient cases. Utah has all but eliminated the death penalty.

Hopefully he will be found guilty snd promptly executed

OK...what I read was a statement made by the Governor saying the state was going to go for the death penalty.

President Trump has called for the death penalty in the wake of Kirk’s killing, but Gray said the decision was one he made “independently as county attorney based solely on the available evidence and circumstances and nature of the crime.”

I would think the State Attorney General would be making the call...since the notoriety of the case. They have more tools to work with...I guess the state and county will be working hand in hand.

PAX TIBI

He's going to get death, the sad thing he'll probably outlive me on the taxpayer dime
It's the taxpayer that loses out to keep folk in jail. This case is a prime example of a bullet to the head one hour after being found guilty.
