Kirk was flatlined 2 seconds after being shot. Probably lost consciousness instantly. Very likely hydrodynamic shock to the brain causing instant death, possible damage to the spinal column in the neck, likely esophagal damage, and instant loss of blood pressure as his heart pumped all his blood out that used to feed the carotid and aorta arteries.

Even if they managed to get a HB at the hospital, no way to put enough blood back into his body to keep him alive long enough to go into the neck and even try to repair all of the damage that was causing him to bleed out.

That's what the Roman gladiators did when they shoved their sword downward in that neck area of their opponents, wasn't it?

Near instant death.
