Breaking down claim CBS was losing $40M a year on Colbert's 'Late Show'
Rumors about the $40 million annual losses appeared to stem from reports published by a media outlet called Puck and the New York Post.www.snopes.com
While the show still garners an average of 2.47 million viewers a night, leads its 11:35 rivals in total audience, and just this week scored its ninth consecutive Emmy nomination for outstanding talk/variety series, its ad revenue has plummeted precipitously since the 2021-22 season,"
- In July 2025, as some critics of CBS's decision to cancel "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" questioned the network's motives, social media posts claimed the popular late-night show was losing at least $40 million per year.
- The claim appeared to stem from reports published by a media outlet called Puck and the New York Post on July 18. However, Snopes could not corroborate the reporting because it relied on information from anonymous sources.
Executives didn't first ask key talent to take pay cuts, fire people or slash costs before cancelling this very popular show?
So they should put in Seth Meyers. He got rid of his band. That saves the company a lot of money.
Oh well. All good things come to an end. And paybacks a *****.
"Colbert might be No. 1, but who watches late night TV anymore?"
broadcast networks took in an estimated $439 million in advertising revenue for their late-night programs as recently as 2018.
In 2024, that number dwindled to $220 million
Still 220 million. What are they going to replace these shows with? They just killed themselves.

You do know it was ABC affiliates who told ABC they weren't going to carry Kimmel anymore from viewer outrage. Nextar and Sinclair broadcasting groups...... their advertiser's freaked out..... Bob Eiger then pulled the show indefinitely, not Trump.Still 220 million. What are they going to replace these shows with?
If I knew there would be real consequences for Democrat Controlled media, I would agree. But I know there wouldn't be so I vote for death by firing squad.I would be OK with a plea deal to spare Charlie Kirk's killer the death penalty if he would agree to testify that he was incited by the major media outlets, who could then be criminally prosecuted for conspiracy to commit murder. What say you?

Not what I heard. So you are repeating fake news. You do know it was ABC affiliates who told ABC they weren't going to carry Kimmel anymore from viewer outrage. Nextar and Sinclair broadcasting groups...... their advertiser's freaked out..... Bob Eiger then pulled the show indefinitely, not Trump.
Kimmel was offered a chance to go on the next night and apologize for his comments and refused.
Heard rumors his show will be preempted in those markets with Charlie Kirk event videos.
Not what Maddow said, huh.....Not what I heard.
No, I'm reporting factual news.So you are repeating fake news.
LOL spellcheck "Allocution"I could wrap my head around one plea “deal” for the assassin.
In exchange for his non revokable entry of a guilty plea (also requiring a full and honest allocation of what he did and how and how he planned it and naming his accomplices, if any) and including a firm agreement to never appeal his conviction or sentence, the United States (or the state of Utah) will permit him to choose between two options for how he will be executed:
1. Death by hanging, or
2. Death by electric chair.
There’s the plea offer. Take it or leave it.
Not what Maddow said, huh.....![]()
Dude....... that's fake news.....Do they intentionally not watch/read anything but their loon media feeds them, or do they dismiss anything contradictory to what they're told as "fake?"
IRVING, TX (Sept. 17, 2025)—Nexstar Media Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: NXST), today announced that the company’s owned and partner television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network will preempt “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” for the foreseeable future beginning with tonight’s show. Nexstar strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.
“Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located,” said Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division. “Continuing to give Mr. Kimmel a broadcast platform in the communities we serve is simply not in the public interest at the current time, and we have made the difficult decision to preempt his show in an effort to let cooler heads prevail as we move toward the resumption of respectful, constructive dialogue.”

I don't think that's how plea deals work.I would be OK with a plea deal to spare Charlie Kirk's killer the death penalty if he would agree to testify that he was incited by the major media outlets, who could then be criminally prosecuted for conspiracy to commit murder. What say you?
