Casting an IPad to HDMI TV?

Gift idea to buy a gadget that allows you to take video from your IPad and plug it in as HDMI to a 4K TV. I KNOW they exist as hardwired adapters. But it's really confusing because freakin' Apple never uses MODEL NUMBERS.. I bought the IPad as a gift last winter, and found an adapter that MIGHT work but Apple has changed the Aux port so many times I'm not SURE...

Anybody doing this on year old IPads? full size?

My son does it with his iPhone to watch Tic-Toc on an old TV I have had since 2010

iPhone does it, so that means iPad does it as well.
Roku comes equipped with AirPlay, Apples cast application. Basically it will cast the iPad screen to your Smart TV wirelessly.
It uses your wireless connection so it can cast in HD.

My son attached a Google chromcast ti the TV. I can cast from my phone and my tablets.
