The problem is what do you do if you find something?... preventative heart surgery?... not sure that is even a thing and I am sure its not covered under insurance...
You must follow up with a treadmill stress test and ultrasound with a cardiologist... if that shows an issue then you can get approval for surgery or a trip to the cath lab for a stent.... so I would start there and save the $300....

The best way to find an issue is a good workout and ultrasound... If there is a cardiac emergency room in your nearest hospital have the stress test there so if something serious is found they can roll you right into the lab...
My ex wife is an emergency room lead nurse and she use to work in a cath lab with different cardiologists....
If you still want the CT scan first... ask them if they can do it with contrast... Contrast is an injection which makes it easier to read the results of the scan...

What you do is get busy moving around and take a baby aspirin a day.
Also stay the hell away from heart centers or you'll end up with a stent or two.$ 120,000 buck a stent. Very profitable.
They will lie like hell say just going to look around next thing you know you wake up with two stents.
Even the man who invented them say aspirin therapy works just as good for majority of people.
Now I have to take aspirin to counter the stents they put in. Also they are more prone to blockage than just partly clogged arteries that aspirin and diet has always taken care of.

well months of worry resulted in our shared cardio guy coming in sitting down....looking at hubby and going.."your fine" so hubby has to ask a 100 questions even after being fine..finally cardio goes...your 70 act your age...no stents just come back in 6 months

I just had this done (CT scan). It cost $133 for the test and another $30 for the lab to read the test. My cholesterol is giving me a high score and the doctor wants me to take a statin. I have a genetic mutation in regards to cholesterol and it is possible that lifestyle changes might not be enough to lower this.

I say, oh well. I walked 3 miles yesterday in 99 degree weather, my heart rate never got above 140 when walking uphill into the sun. It was usually 125 bpm. My blood pressure has been low my entire life. All of this needs to be considered, so I said no to my doctor for taking a statin.
