Can capitalism open up the Bottomless Pit described in Revelation?
In The Wealth of Nations, the great economist-philosopher Adam Smith described the process by which competition-based contracts create flows of decision-making.
As we know from civics history, profiteers have established tyrannical dominions in the past, taking advantage of 'capitalism loopholes' (e.g., Al Capone, Mussolini, etc.).
Since capitalism is based on competition more than cooperation, we could imagine a hypothetical situation in which an 'endless race' for money traps two competitors in a 'greed gauntlet.'
Such a 'greed gauntlet' would certainly open up a Bottomless Pit from which there would be metaphysical escape.
The Bible says that at the End of Days, Apollyon (or Abaddon), a mysterious figure who is a 'master' of this Bottomless Pit will prevent total panic (by sealing the pit), and then Michael the archangel will bind up the Dragon and end the reign of the AntiChrist.
If capitalism could create a 'greed gauntlet' that would open up a Bottomless Pit (as described in Revelation), we could see why Hollywood (USA) would make 'ambition-paranoia' films such as The Wolf of Wall Street, implying that the only way to seal up this Bottomless Pit would be to offer an antidote to greed.
So what is the antidote to greed? It must be a serious spiritual assessment of RISK.
