Ok color me stupid but I really don't get all this carbon credits because to me it doesn't matter if carbon credits issued or not. It still means if they believe in what they preach...energy used is energy used...it's like one of those pyramid scams

Nothing stupid with you...it's just a crazy concept scam they're shoving on us. It's a made up industry created to get more taxes from the people. This is an industry with no buildings, no product, nothing to transport, no employment, and nothing to write off. In otherwards, it's a phantom industry. Al Gore is going to make a killing off of it.

Now the counter claim to this is that Gores actual energy usage is a offset by his purchasing offsets and reducing his carbon footprint. However one of the things that many don't realize is that Gore has a vested interest in a Crabon trading firm in London.

Thats Al Gore's Carbon Trading company in which he purchases those credits from himself. So any defense of this man who is clearly perpetuating an agenda for self enrichment and has been rewarded for science that has been clearly debunked that he himself has put forth . So anyone that would defend Al Gore as some pure defender of the environment should really do a little more homework and see that the end result of all his efforts have led to the destructive bill that the Senate is debating.

First of all Maggie it would help , the LEED certification is just another stamp thay upholds some standards set down by some environmental agency within the Federal Govt. Further, your assertion that Al Gore no longer has a LARGE carbon footprint simply because he he has a certification for installation of solar panels, and other items to meet the certification does not sway me whatsoever when it comes to the fact that Al Gore, A. Is one of the principles of the very firm he gets his offsets from B. While Lowering his utility bills that does not mean that his usage compared to those he wishes to visit this nonsense on has gone down at all , in fact he still has his many jet ski's, SUV's, Private Jet, etc. C. Al Gore does not practice what he preaches and daily uses a security detail for himself which drives him around in limos that burn fossil fuels that he claims are a factor this "man made global warming scam"

So to claim that by meetind the LEED standard that somehow Al Gore is no carbon compliant is complete nonsense. There are literally hundreds if not thousands of instances of Al Gore hoping around in Private Jets , in Limo's his home illuminated like Times Square all while Al Gore preaches Dr. Mann's and the IPCC's nonsense to the rest of the world and asks us to support this profit making venture that has little if anything to do with the environment.

I have debated this cap and trade scheme for a long time now, and will only say that those that believe in this sort of thing should listen to scientists that are global warming advocates , and many other groups when it comes to environmental advocacy rather than this mornonic scheme to enrich those who seek nothing more than to make billions with taxpayers money and send this nation into a third would status. I had the opportunity to listen to one of those scientist that was part of the IPCC yesterday when he said this;

“If the US passed a cap and trade and other countries did not, it wouldn’t work. It would ruin the US economy and it wouldn’t save the climate either. So this is a global issue, the global climate statistics are global in nature, global carbon emissions are global in nature, and we really have to have an international consensus of what to do. That is going to stretch our international diplomacy to its limit, there’s no doubt about that.”

If you have not noticed China and India have shown no intention at all to comply with ANY protocols that will restrict them from coal production or fossil fuel production. So even those that sit on the IPCC and agree with this pseudo-science agree that to pass cap and trade legislation without WORLD WIDE complience is akin to taking a gun and shooting your own economy. If you wish to advocate for that all in the name to enrich the likes of G.E., Senitas, and a whole host of other corporations that are pushing for this liegislation then by all means stand in line. However, don't complain when their CEO's reap 100 million dollar salaries while your children and grandchildren are selling blankets to Chinese tourists.

So, if the governments purpose of Cap And Trade is to reduce supposedly bad behavior (reduce global warming carbons and gasses), basically, that says the government intends to tax things which they want to stop.
It's not only that, they say that they want to tax other behaviors they want to reduce also, tobacco and alcohol being two other biggies when using that line.
Ever hear of income tax?
Are they trying to reduce the amount of income you generate?

Nooooooooooo, they wouldn't wanna do that, not our benevolent government.

It's all about power, they are all addicted to it, it's stronger than a crack addiction to these people, but they will eventually recover when we kick their butts out of office and into an unemployment line come November of 2010.

Cap and trade was already going on before Bush gutted the Clean Air and Water Acts. It worked very well and employed a lot of people and lead to a lot of innovation. It wasn't a consumer grade sort of thing.

It wasn't based on global warming per se but pollution and reducing the impact on the ozone. It was a pay it forward impact fee that managed the the output models of new facilities and paid to retrofit existing ones in the receiving zone.

In some counties here there are impact fees to build a new house, like 10k per. That covers the new sewer arms and water and electric ans sometimes preservation considerations. The sewer and water is new and so are the underground electric lines so there is a cost to the county to get those installed and then maintain. Cap and trade is heading back in that direction.
